Metal Gear Rising 2 PS4 PlayStation 4

The problem with constantly crying wolf is that no one is able to believe a word that you say. Sony seemingly hinted at Metal Gear Rising 2 during a Taipei Game Show montage over the weekend, but speaking with journalist Geoff Keighley, senior producer Ken-Ichiro Imaizumi said that it's not true. Of course, we've been here before with both Silent Hills and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Asked what the teaser was referring to – which showed a number '2' in an almost identical font to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance – a flummoxed Imaizumi suggested that it was part of a countdown in the platform holder's promo. According to the executive, the teaser also included sound bites of people saying "one" and "three".

As such, we'd recommend putting those hopes of a Platinum Games developed sequel on ice until something's officially confirmed. However, given Kojima Productions' track record, there's every possibility that it's just trying to throw us off the scent. Either way, if the game wasn't in development before, the excitement surrounding its 'reveal' may just be enough to get it greenlit for real.
