Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance may have been borderline incomprehensible at points – seriously, what the heck happened during that final boss fight? – but it was yet another outstanding action game from Japanese developer Platinum Games. And, during the Taipei Game Show overnight, Sony has hinted that a sequel to the Raiden-fronted release is very much in development for the PlayStation 4.
The platform holder sneakily included a subtle reference to the potential PS4 follow-up in a montage, which merely showed the number '2' in a similar font to the one that was employed by the original PlayStation 3 title. You can catch the teaser for yourself at around 2:46:39 in this Twitch stream, where it appears after The Order: 1886. A successor would not exactly be surprising, seeing as the first game was easily Platinum Games' most commercially successful project so far.

great I loved revegeance, it was nice to have a story after MGS4 and a new style of game in the same universe, so a sequel would be great
just a longer story this time round though because revengeance was a little short (but still fun)
A few refinements and I'd say you've got a borderline perfect action game.
Yeah, this is going to be awesome. The basis that they're building from is already sublime, so as @ShogunRok says, a few refinements — I didn't like the parrying, for example — and this is going to be brilliant.
Yeeehaaawww! One of my personal favorites of the last gen; that game had everything I want in a game and it really showed the world what Platinum is capable of. Pleesaaassee bring us another kick ass collectors edition like last time: I don't just play a game like this, I celebrate it!
I can definitely get hyped for this. Never finished the first but what I played was pretty damn good. For the right price, I could get behind a 'remaster' of the first while we wait for the sequel.
I should really finish the first game, I remember getting it around the same time as DmC and I preferred DmC at the time but I have heard a lot of good things and I love metal gear. Bring on the phantom pain and rising 2!
They NEED to use the touch pad for slices! That'll be so cool and possibly the best use of the touch pad so far.
After the sterling work Platinum did on Bayonetta 2 - and what they've learned from Nintendo (their words) to do with additional gameplay and replayability - this could be something really special.
@ShogunRok You've just described Bayonetta 2. They make a game even half as good as that and it's the best game on PS4 by miles.
@zizzorhandz Optional inclusion, fair enough. Must do it, no way in hell. A second of moving your hand in a Platinum game can cost you your life. Would be more of a hindrance than anything.
@get2sammyb
I loved parrying right up until that final boss fight Nanamachines Son! Couldn't justify that.
Announcement was typical Kojima. A remaster included with the sequel would be lovely.
awesome! even better if it's PS4 exclusive.
STANDING HERE
I REALIZE
THAT I'M SO HYPE
Please god no
@FullbringIchigo I still need to both buy and play Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance here myself.
I just need to force myself to beat MGS 1-4 first...I think I got stuck fighting someone who uses bees as a weapon.
I played the demo for Revengeance and I enjoyed it. I honestly couldn't see any other type of game that fits Cyborg Raiden. I'll get it in the future, and I'm glad that Raiden's story continues.
@rastamadeus Bayonetta 2 is a very good game, but i personally preferred MGR over both of the bayonettas
Bayonetta is like watching a super fast firework display on your TV. Explosions and huge splashes of colour are all you can see, as you frequently lose sight of the main character, and frantically mash buttons to compensate for the games violent attack on your eyes.
Now MGR is fast paced too, but it also has skilful thoughtful slicing action. without the fireworks, And the OTT madness and dizziness of daft game design
The wiiu controller also doesn't help. Because ITS GARBAGE. The fact nintendo owners have to buy the THE FOURTEEN YEAR OLD gamecube controller just to play new games to their potential is laughable.
Its no wonder Nintendo is flopping so badly
Revengeance 2: High Frequency Boogaloo
This could really be something special after what they did with Bayonetta 2. That's an extremely high bar, but they just might be able to top it.
I just recently finished rising and I liked it quite a bit overall, although it did feel a bit shorter than I expected... I think my main issue was sometimes the camera.
I would definitely buy a sequel to it.
Sweet mother! If this is real, it'll be yet another reason why I need to get Sony's latest console!
@Davros79 - Do you even have a Wii U? I wouldn't exactly call the GamePad "garbage". Besides, the Pro Controller can be used for basically every game on the console - which is viewed as one of the best joypads ever made. The only reason Nintendo released the GCN peripheral was because the idiotic Melee 'fans' constantly hounded them about it.
Oh, and Sony is the one going broke, not Nintendo 😉
By far one of the best games i've ever played on consoles. Easily the most memorable video game soundtrack for me as well. I loved MGR and all I can hope for is that the music in this game is on par with that of the last one.

@Kage_88 I did own a wii u until about 2 months ago. I just thought the pad was a cheaply thrown together hand held TBH. It is very cumbersome and bulky.
Nintendo is the third most popular console FACT (sony being in debt doesn't alter this) do Nintendo make tv's?, hi fi's? Mobile phones? Lap tops? Microwaves?/?...................What No!????! ......
Coz last time i checked the ps4 and xbone were ripping the Wii u a new arsehole sales wise!!
I love ninty but they 're merely a maggot in sonys and microsofts piranha tank.
@Davros79 - Whoa, whoa, hold on a second...
First, the GamePad is cumbersome and bulky? Okay, you're entitled to think that, if you want - but from what I've seen, you'd be in the minority. IMO, the thing is very comfy to hold - and at 500
grams, it's about the same weight as an Xbox controller.
Second; yes, the Wii U is the least popular console. But if we are going by units sold of all active consoles, then Nintendo is in fact in first place (9.2 m Wii Us + 50 m 3DSs) compared to Sony (18.5 m PS4s + roughly 7 m Vitas) and Microsoft (who haven't announced the sales numbers of the Xbox One).
Third; no, Nintendo doesn't make all those home entertainment devices. I don't see what your point is here.
Finally; PS4 is indeed ripping the Wii U "a new arsehole", as you so eloquently put it (Xbox One to a lesser extent). But Nintendo is by no means a "maggot" in the "piranha tank"; the company is in fact worth more than Sony, and the Xbox brand has lost Microsoft billions since its inception. While Sony and Microsoft are shutting down studios and selling assets, Nintendo is creating new ones and making a healthy profit. Maybe being a maggot ain't so bad, eh?
@ToddlerNaruto he's easier to beat if you use first person mode to shoot the bee bombs and dodge roll the bullet bees
@Kage_88 last time I checked MS had 5 million XB1's SHIPPED so that's not actualy how many sold to consumers that's how many sold to retail outlets
but they havn't put up the numbers for xmas yet or at least I havn't seen them but as the PS3 out sold the 360 worldwide and counting the sales of the PS3 and 360 they are still behind Sony and Nintendo in terms of worldwide sales
@Kage_88 Just to clarify . Sony are not in debt because of their home console PlayStation brand.
It is the PC/laptop division (amongst other devices) that has landed them in financial trouble.
Hence why i said, Nintendo dont "make tv's laptops, microwaves" etc.
The wiiu was also released in 2012. Which kind' give it HUGE advantage sales wise. Nintendo had a whole YEAR without sonys and microsofts new consoles to deal with.
ummmmmmmmmm yes
No thanks, hated mgr
@get2sammyb Read that some company (GameInformer, IGN or something) asked Konami and Hideo Kojima if that was a tease for it. For one, HIdeo does stuff and denies it, look at MGS V, and for two, MGR was made by Platinum Games. I for one, loved the first game. I hope and think this is real so ill be buying it.
@Davros79 - I agree. No matter how well-off Nintendo are financially, they really did screw-up the Wii U's marketing.
And yes, the PS brand is definitely a major money maker for Sony - which is a great thing, as it means gaming will always be a priority within the greater Sony hierarchy. As I said before, I myself will be getting a PS4 soon (along with an Xbox One) - there's just so many great games coming out this year.
@FullbringIchigo Thanks for the helpful advice, though I sadly don't see myself playing MGS anytime soon.
I've got other games on my backlog that have higher priority at the moment...
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi I don't know. Still looks more like Metal Gear Rising to me.
