It's safe to say that the PlayStation TV hasn't set the world on fire. A good little console if you're in a very particular slice of the market, the device just doesn't have enough mainstream appeal – but perhaps that's a good thing if you're looking into buying a PlayStation 4 in the near future.
Starting today, retailer GameStop is offering a free PlayStation TV to anyone who picks up Sony's new-gen console along with a year's membership of PlayStation Plus. Not a bad bonus if you're going to put down the money for a PS4 anyway. The deal will only be available until the 24th February, so you may have to be quick.

In order to get a product off the shelves, you must first give it away for free with a product flying off the shelves...
I hope the price drops to 30-50 soon... its not worth 99 euros in my opinion.
Nifty. If only I had waited a year and a couple months for the ability to play some Vita games on my tv using a completely different system... Dang, I missed the mark on that one big time.
Don't get me wrong, I sincerely LOVE my Vita, but Sony really didn't do what they should have when the PS4 released. There should've been bundles with PS4 & Vita on day 1 for $449.99. Or they should've included a voucher for $49.99 for Vita in the PS4 box. Or they should've done a $100 o $150 mail-in rebate on Vita purchase if it's done within 30 days of the PS4 purchase. Or, like I keep whining about, there should be a Vita app on PSN so that gamers can play Vita games on tv through their PS4. If they want to charge $49.99 for the Vita app, hey, I might even bite at that. What I don't want, though, is another hardware console plugged into my tv, changing controllers around, and messing around with more cords, changing tv input channels, and so on. As it is, I'm more apt to play a different game on PS4 that's already been downloaded thru PSN than getting up to switch discs (even if I'd rather play the disc game).
Anyway, I'm glad some folks will get their hands on Playstation TV. It's just unfortunate the hardcore gamers who'd actually use the thing won't be getting it as they undoubtedly already own a PS4. Kudos to GameStop for trying to move an ice cold product into gamers' hands.
@Punished_Boss_84 Pretty much this.
Are you feeling okay, boss?
This isn't a bad little offer. If you're planning on getting a PS4, may as well get the free PS TV, too.
Someone has this idea months ago on this site. can't remember who
So GameStop punishes the day-one/preorder crowd and even the early adopters again. I got a Vita pretty early on and I paid for my ps4 in July of 2014 and dozens of full games, so I ...don't get a free one? That is some deal, folks!
Who is the pstv aimed at? I really don't understand who these are marketed for. Its become increasingly obvious with the ouya and similar products they are niche and almost dead on arrival. If we really want a cheap box for net flix and cheap games we've all got one already. Its called a ps3 / x360. Even the ps4 to vita streaming, does anybody use it? I think a lot of these ideas sdound better In a boardroom Tha real life.
I have PS TV and love it. It was very cheap & enabled me to fall in love with Persona 4 on my big screen. Also, Killzone Mercenary is great.
I got Muramasa, Ninja Gaiden, & Final Fantasy X HD waiting. I hate handhelds, so this was a great purchase for me. I am upset that Sony isn't patching more games for it (especially Uncharted: GA), but I got my money's worth on Killzone & 80+ hrs (and counting) of Persona 4 alone.
@charlesnarles Not sure this counts as punishing the day1 purchasers (myself included). I feel like I've had a pretty decent year+ of fun since launch that latecomers have missed out upon. Plus, I've had a decent stack of games across 3 platforms for my PSN subscription.
How about £400 with PS TV and a Vita...
Wow I only just bought this before Xmas and boom it's on deal!! Early signs of failure for Ps tv?
So will they now officially change it's name to "PS4 Portal"?
@robjewitt that's my point too though; we've only had the opportunity to spend hundreds/thousands in the meantime, but we'd still have those experiences (save for Plus games which haven't been super amazing in NA imho) available to us if we just pretended the PS4 were released whatever day we pick one up. With a free PSTV.
@themcnoisy
People who want to play select Vita games but don't want to spend the $200 on a Vita more likely. And people who want to game in multiple rooms without moving their PS4 back and forth ala remote play.
Amazon US just had a lightening deal that had the PSTV for $39.99 so it was impossible to pass up. Picked up P4G, Tales of Hearts R and Danganronpa. I don't own a Vita and don't really want one enough to buy it (I have a 3DS and decent backlog) and I'm currently in-between gens (Own a PS3 but not really playing anything on it anymore. Waiting probably for Persona 5 to get a PS4) so it was a nice deal and I get to play the games that interested me most on Vita.
@feelthesarcasm that's fair, but when you do buy your ps4 remote play isn't great (on the vita at least) The vita can be bought for £150 and the vita tv was £99 so why wouldn't you pay the extra £50 for gaming on the go? That said at £39.99 its worth it if you don't own a vita already and there are some great games, My point is its doa as nobody other than a niche group (which you are in) would want one. Just like no one needs an ouya. Or a google box. Or an amazon thingy. My feelings are pretty much the same as comment #3 up there.
@BetweenTheTrees It was me, I'm glad they're actually trying this out.
