If there's one topic this reporter likes writing about, it's free downloadable content. Thankfully, he's been getting to do an awful lot of that recently, with Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Killzone: Shadow Fall, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt all confirming the inclusion of complimentary extras. The latest addition to this heart-warming list is multiplayer shooter Evolve.
Speaking with IGN, the title's creative director Phil Robb said that this strategy was put in place to avoid fracturing the community. “We can’t break the community up, so all of our maps will be free,” he said. “We never want anyone to get booted off of a server because they haven’t bought something."
What's more, he confirmed that you'll reap the benefits if your friends do decide to buy its extra content. “We’ll have [DLC] characters and monsters, and even if you don’t buy them, if your buddy wants to buy the DLC, that’s cool, and your game will be enhanced through his purchase," Robb continued. “You won’t be able to play as those characters, but you will certainly be able to play with those characters.”
Are you a fan of this sudden influx of free DLC? Will you be picking up Evolve when it launches next year? Team up in the comments section below.

I know it won't cost me a single cent...Because I won't be buying the damn game.
@KAPADO Well played, sir. Well played
@KAPADO Boom! Yeah, I couldn't be less interested in this either. Good to hear they're doing free DLC - I think if you're not Call of Duty or Battlefield, though, you have to. Imagine if Killzone had charged for maps - the playerbase on that game is teensy as it is, there would be literally about 10 people playing the DLC.
They can't charge for extra maps, that's all the game is, maps. I won't be bothering, I was initially excited but they screwed up the PlayStation alpha, there is no PlayStation beta. Cya. Yes its early on but, I can see a lot of issues just getting the game running properly and consistently, the alpha was a giant mess. I'd like to rent it though if it does work.
@get2sammyb Killzone is a series that deserves a larger playerbase. What they have done with post release dlc is just amazing.
Yet somehow I don't play it as much, It's Guerrilla's limited weapons selection and need of better maps design , gameplay modes that hinder its success.
@k_andersen tip of the hat.
@KAPADO well then, maybe the word amazing doesn't describe it since the limited weapons, maps and gameplay are less than amazing.
My idea of amazing would definitely include those characteristics to start.
