Dead or Alive 5 is a bit like one of those adult hotlines: expensive but strangely enjoyable. With more downloadable costumes than an Ann Summers storeroom, Koei Tecmo has announced that a free version of PlayStation 4 port Dead or Alive 5: Last Round will release on Sony’s next-gen system. Much like the PlayStation 3’s complimentary Dead or Alive 5: Core Fighters, this will likely see you stumping up for additional characters and clothing.
And what a wealth of attire there’s likely to be when the revision punches into Japanese stores on 19th February. There’s rarely a week goes by where the publisher doesn’t add some titillating new threads to the existing versions of the game, and these will all be compatible with the re-release at launch. Moreover, there’ll be two new stages in this updated edition – both based upon classic series arenas – and fresh male and female fighters. What more could you possibly want?

This title is going to look beautiful on the ps4. Hooray for free games
I wouldn't be surprised if more fighting games starting going this route, the genre does kind of lend itself to free-to-play and it's not a bad thing when done right. Killer Instinct is give or take as far as if you like its style of gameplay but the way it's been handled as far purchasing things isn't too bad.
It all depends on the trophy list. If I have to beat the top ten players in the world in five seconds without taking damage to get a trophy (meaning there is no possible way I will platinum it) then as much as I loved DOA games on my PS2 and Dreamcast, I won't be playing them on my PS4 (I skipped fighting games on the PS3 for this reason).
@thedevilsjester DOA5U's Trophies weren't too bad. There was beat a certain amount online which sadly is impossible now but that's about it. The only ones I can't do are all moves for a single character. There's just some combos where no matter how many times I press the buttons correctly they don't work so I rage quit.
@rastamadeus I don't mind trophies that are hard or nearly impossible that are offline/single player trophies because I can always practice in a known environment and eventually get it, but if the online trophies are more than participatory, for example Rank (not leader board rank), Complete a certain number of matches, etc..., then no matter if I think it would be the best game ever, I will not touch it. There are quite a few games that I would have bought in the last 6 years that I passed on because they had online trophies that did not seem reasonable for someone that only plays online occasionally if at all. The sad part is most of them are offline single player games that felt like they needed to shoe horn some multiplayer component in to appeal to the social crowd.
Sounds interesting I've been wanting a new fighter for the PS4 nothing better than a free one!
I will get last round, if it at least include all characters.... I have stayed out of DOA5 due to ridiculous amount of expensive DLC
Meh.
@thedevilsjester Only problem I have with online fighting trophies is that if you don't get the game pronto at release you have such a poor chance of completing them as no bugger is on. I got Tekken Tag Tournament 2 last year and found about six people online. The first DOA5 was the worst though: play in (maybe even win actually) 1000 online games.
I'm rather amused by people not wanting to play games they can't "platinum". Well, that's OCD for you. Either that, or some kind of weird peer pressure.
I never could really get into Dead or Alive the only reason I played it back in the PSone days I think it was, was because it had the reemergence of Ryu from Ninja Gaiden in it and since I didn't own an Xbox.
Still I think I will wait till MK X comes to PS4 for my fighting game fix unless by some chance Capcom releases SFIV on the PS4.
Loved 3DS Dimensions, so I may actually get this, but I will deffo try this freebie one.
FINALLY! A free game I actually want! I am already sick of these cutesy and cheesy 'indie" titles. I bought my ps4 for the superiour graphics and next gen gameplay, not to be bored to death by FEZ....again.
19th February?
we will probably be playing this before we get our free copy of Driveclub.
So I can just get this version and buy female characters only to play my dress-up game.
