Battlefield developer DICE’s long-awaited Star Wars: Battlefront reboot will steer its X-Wing onto the PlayStation 4 next holiday, publisher EA Games has announced. The company declared the tidbit on Twitter, shortly after Australian gaffer Andrew Wilson shared the news with investors as part of a financial meeting. Apparently, everyone was over Naboo.
The sci-fi title will represent the firm’s “major first-person shooter” for the year, and will coincide with the release of J.J. Abrams’ upcoming movie. You can pretty much expect this to print money, then. Of course, that will depend on whether the Swedish studio can nail the matchmaking – the jury’s still out after Battlefield 4’s bothersome launch.

Im also a huge Battlefront fan and have been wanting this for a long long time. Im worried though. The last thing I want is this to be a Battlefield clone and there's probably a good chance it will be.
It's definitely going to be Battlefield with Star Wars characters/vehicles.
There would have to be a screw up of epic proportions for this game to not make huge amounts of money as it releases amidst the frenzy of a new Star Wars film....of course it selling well doesn't mean it will be good, but we can hope real care and attention will go into it.

More original trilogy and the new sequels than Jar-Jar and Anakin please.

@eLarkos @Reverandjames @get2sammyb Oh please no first-person shooter, that would be the biggest let down I just want proper Battlefront. Also a real shame they'll be no prequel era in the game.
I think they confirmed it as fps, I'm really hoping it does do well, I need me a decent star wars/gate/trek game, all three at some point would be good.
Even if it is a battlefield clone, the fact that it would have star wars locations, vehicles, and sounds means that DICE will have my money. And now since the system is out they do not have to rush the game. And the failure of battlefield will make them perform better in regards.
Well that's a load of crap. It's a FPS? What gives? Now they're taking my favorite beloved sci-fi games and turning them into first person shooters? It's Star Wars! It should be a fantasy adventure game! Of course, Metroid Prime proves you CAN do adventure in first person, but this is EA were talking about here. When they say FPS, they mean exactly that.

FPS means I won't get it. Simple as that. For me, the FPS horse has been beaten to death by CoD and Battlefront, so I was hoping against hope that the new Battlefront would stay as a TPS.
@Dodoo Battlefield HL is out this year whereas Battlefront is due next year so I guess it means Battlefront will be next years major first person shooter.

Damn so it's gonna be FPS...there goes me ever playing it.
I might still watch LP vids on YT though, or just read the plot on wikipedia.
Ouch, the news of a FPS hurts me real bad. I will still buy it as I haven't been playing any FPS for the last couple years so im not completely overdone with them.
Edit: Replayed FarCry and Crysis recently. I think of them as a bit different though.

Much like anyone else here, I'm pretty saddened by the Battlefront=FPS thing. There's probably going to be someone in the comments saying "stop whining, at least it's coming" or something like that, but Battlefront to me is best as a 3PS. It felt more right playing it that way. Besides, if you're stuck playing as heroes in first person, or probably not at all, I imagine this is tame in comparison to how bad backlash could get.
It should be noted that there was a first person option in the games, but like I said, it felt more right as a 3PS.
I'm not gonna condemn this though. I'll for actual footage before I make a decision on whether I want it or not.
I think this will suck hard, if dice are making it. Bf4 doesn't inspire great confidence. To top it off change it to fps is a serious bad move. I loved third person in the last battlefront with the option to change to first. I love star wars but I can't think of a good star wars game. Starkiller sucked. I love star wars star racer and the one with space ships and knights if the old republic. I'm hope I'm wrong
Would kill for a good Star Wars game that transported me into the world. Sadly none has ever been made (IMO). This shows some promise, but WAY too early to call.
Waiting, but certainly not holding my breath at this point.

If DICE is involved, I'm not that excited for it. They proved their incompetence with all of their Battlefield games that they released in an unfinished manner.
i'm sure it's going to be fantasic and almost live upto the predecessors...but it still annoys me that there won't be split-screen mp
