PlayStation Home PS3

Sony is locking the front door on PlayStation Home β€” and swallowing the key. The divisive virtual world, which has been in beta since the hazy days of 2008, will officially close on 31st March, 2015 in Europe. At the time of typing, there's no official word on the future of the platform in North America, but given that this was a European initiative all along, we can't imagine that the platform holder will continue to stoke the service's fire over the pond.

"Due to a shifting landscape, PlayStation Home will cease publishing new content on 12th November, 2014," the manufacturer wrote as part of a message on its official website. "Gamers in Europe will be able to download content until 3rd December, 2014. As a token of our tremendous gratitude to the community, we will also be releasing a series of free content prior to the platforms closure on the 31st March, 2015."

The firm also went on to thank fans for their ongoing support, which probably won't come as much consolation for those dedicated few who continue to invest time and money into their digital avatar. Will this closure affect you? Give us one last dance in the comments section below.
