Minecraft PlayStation 4 Walkthrough

Road Map

Those of you that are new to Minecraft may want to play through the title’s tutorial before getting started in order to get to grips with the game. Not only will you pick up plenty of tips during this session, but you’ll also grab a bunch of Trophies to boot. In fact, this area will come in handy later on as well, as a number of the trinkets can be obtained easily from this section. If you’re still not clear about how to play the title, check out our quick start guide – and then start a new game.

You’ll want to begin by gathering the basic materials: wood and stone. Craft some stone tools and kill a few animals for food. Then head down into a cave to collect the following: coal, iron, gold, and diamonds. Upgrade your tools using the iron and diamond, and don’t forget to make some armour, too. Once you’re done, you’ll need to collect some obsidian using your diamond pickaxe. You’ll need at least 16 in total: 14 for a portal, and two for an enchanting table.

Next, enchant your armour and sword and build a Nether portal. Enter this and find a fortress to kill some Blaze, ensuring to nab their rods. Use the Ender pearls and Blaze rods to make Eyes of Ender, and find a stronghold. Explore the stronghold for the portal room, and then jump to the End. Here, you’ll need to beat the Enderdragon by destroying the beacons on the towers and then attacking the foul beast itself.

By this point you should have most of the Trophies, so look through your list and see what you’ve missed. Use the individual guides below to clean up, and then wait for the prestigious Platinum gong to ping.

Trophy Guide

Awarded all Trophies - Platinum
All Trophies have been awarded.

Collect every Trophy.

Taking Inventory - Bronze
Open your inventory.

A quick tap of the triangle button will open your inventory.

Getting Wood - Bronze
Punch a tree until the block of wood pops out.

Find the nearest tree and punch it until a wood block pops out.

Benchmarking - Bronze
Craft a workbench with four blocks of wooden planks.

Convert a piece of wood into four planks in your crafting window (press square to open it), and then craft a workbench out of them.

Time to Mine! - Bronze
Use planks and sticks to make a pickaxe.

Grab some wood and craft a wooden pickaxe in the crafting window.

Hot Topic - Bronze
Construct a furnace out of eight cobblestone blocks.

Mine some stone using a pickaxe and craft a furnace in the crafting menu.

Acquire Hardware - Silver
Smelt an iron ingot.

Enter a cave and find some iron ore. Then mine it with a stone pickaxe and place it in a furnace with some coal. The ore will slowly smelt into an iron ingot.

Time to Farm! - Bronze
Use planks and sticks to make a hoe.

Collect some wood from a tree and craft away.

Bake Bread - Silver
Turn wheat into bread.

Walk around on grass and punch the bushy tufts of it and you will receive seeds. Then hoe a block of grass near water and plant the seeds. You can then either wait for them to grow, or use some bone meal to speed up the process of growth. As a result, you will gain some wheat. Collect three and then craft a loaf of bread.

The Lie - Silver
Bake a cake using wheat, sugar, milk and eggs!

First you'll need to get wheat (see above) and sugar. Sugar is made from sugarcane, which is found in the world often growing near water. All it requires is a punch to collect, and then you can craft it into sugar. Milk is obtained by using three iron ingots to craft a bucket, and a simple click on the cow with the bucket will give you milk. Finally, find a chicken and wait for an egg.

Getting an Upgrade - Bronze
Construct a better pickaxe.

Grab some wood and cobblestone and craft the night away.

Delicious Fish - Silver
Catch and cook a fish!

Craft a fishing rod using sticks and string. Then find some water and cast your line. Wait until the bob on your rod goes under the water, and then reel her in. Throw the fish into a furnace with some coal and dinner is served.

On A Rail - Gold
Travel by minecart to a point at least 500m in a single direction from where you started.

This trinket can be a pain to get, but as long as you have lots of Gold, Iron, and Redstone, it's easy peasy. Craft lots of rails powered and non-powered, and then walk in a straight line for 500 blocks placing down the tracks. Simply hop in a minecart and ride it on back.

Time to Strike! - Bronze
Use planks and sticks to make a sword.

Grab some wood and you're all good. The key to all crafted things is the square button.

Monster Hunter - Bronze
Attack and destroy a monster.

Find a monster, and kill the monster. It's easier to find monsters at night, and it's best to kill them with a sword.

Cow Tipper - Bronze
Harvest some leather.

Slaughter some innocent cows until they hand over some skin.

When Pigs Fly - Gold
Use a saddle to ride a pig, then have the pig get hurt from fall damage while riding it.

This one is easier with a friend playing (or even your mum). First you need to find a saddle from a chest inside a dungeon. Then put the saddle on the pig and ride it. After this, get your friend to dig a four block deep hole and punch the pig into it while you’re riding it.

Leader of the Pack - Silver
Befriend five wolves.

In order to befriend a wolf you'll need bones, which requires you to kill a lot of skeletons. Once you have acquired enough bones, run around in a forest until you make some new toothy mates.

MOAR Tools - Bronze
Construct one type of each tool (one pickaxe, one spade, one axe and one hoe).

Get some wood and open the crafting window to make every tool.

Dispense With This - Silver
Construct a Dispenser.

Collect seven cobblestone, a piece of redstone, and a bow. Craft it.

Into the Nether - Silver
Construct a Nether portal.

Craft a diamond pickaxe, as you will need this to mine the obsidian. Get some water and lava using a bucket. Pour them out next to each other in order to make obsidian and mine it. Do this fourteen times, and then arrange the obsidian blocks in a five tall, four wide, and only one deep rectangle (leaving the six middle blocks empty). Finally craft a flint and steel using an iron ingot and a piece of flint (gained from punched gravel). Hit the portal with the flint and steel to light it.

Sniper Duel - Silver
Kill a skeleton with an arrow from more than 50 meters.

This can be tricky, but there are a couple of tricks to getting it. First off you need to use sticks and string to craft a bow. Also use flint, sticks, and feathers to craft arrows. Once equipped with the bow and arrows, head to a desert biome at night; as there are no trees to get in the way of your shots, it's easy to see from long distance and hit skeletons. Also the further away the skeleton is, the higher that you need to aim the bow.

DIAMONDS! - Gold
Acquire diamonds with your iron tools.

Make an iron pickaxe, and then head deep underground. Diamonds are only found very deep underground, near lava and bedrock.

Return to Sender - Gold
Destroy a Ghast with a fireball.

Enter the Nether and stand in the firing line of a Ghast. When its fireball comes close, hit it with your hand or sword in order to send the flaming projectile back in the direction of the sender.

Into Fire - Silver
Relieve a Blaze of its rod.

In the Nether, explore until you find a fortress. In the fortress, there will be Blaze spawners. All you have to do is kill Blazes until they give you a rod. We would recommend that you get full diamond armour and a diamond sword before trying to kill Blazes.

Local Brewery - Silver
Brew a potion.

Use the Blaze rod acquired in Into Fire (see above) to craft a brewing stand. Also craft some glass bottles by smelting sand, and lastly grab some Nether wart from the Nether fortress. Put the glass bottles and Nether wart in the brewing stand and it will brew an awkward potion. This can then be used in the brewing stand again with one of the following ingredients to make a potion: sugar, spider eye, Ghast tear, or Blaze powder.

The End? - Gold
Enter the End Portal.

This can take a long time to achieve, and has many steps to it. First you need to collect Ender pearls from Ender Men, which is easier to do in a desert biome at night. Second on the list is Blaze rods (see Into Fire), which you can convert into Blaze powder. Use these two items, Ender pearls and Blaze powder, to craft Eyes of Ender. Thirdly, go exploring once you have collected at least 15 Eyes of Ender, and every now and again throw one up in the air and then follow in that direction. After a while it will lead you to a spot where you have to dig down and find a stronghold. Lastly, explore the stronghold until you find the portal room, place the remaining Eyes of Ender in the portal frame and jump in.

The End. - Gold
Kill the Enderdragon.

Once in the End (see above), you will be faced with a dragon to defeat. Use either your bow or some blocks to take out the regeneration beacons on every obsidian tower. Then use your bow or sword to kill the dragon.

Enchanter - Silver
Construct an Enchantment Table.

Get four obsidian, two diamonds, and a book. Then craft away.

Overkill - Bronze
Deal nine hearts of damage in a single hit.

Craft a diamond sword and then enchant it using 30 levels of XP to get this one.

Librarian - Bronze
Build some bookshelves to improve your enchantment table.

Craft a bookshelf using three books and six wooden planks.

Adventuring Time - Silver
Discover 17 of 23 biomes.

Go on an adventure and explore your world in search of different environments. These include: Frozen River, Ice Plains, Cold Beach, Cold Taiga, Cold Taiga M, Extreme Hills, Taiga, Taiga M, The End, Plains, Forest, Swampland, Swampland M, River, Mushroom, Island, Mushroom Island Shore, Beach, Jungle, Jungle M, Jungle Edge, Nether, Desert, and Ocean. You only need to find 17.

Repopulation - Bronze
Breed two cows with wheat.

This Trophy can be unlocked easily in the tutorial as you are given wheat and cows. Just click on the two cows with the wheat and avert your eyes. Then wait for the pop – and a cute baby cow will appear.

Diamonds to you! - Bronze
Throw diamonds at another player.

Get a friend into your game and then throw diamonds at their feet.

Pork Chop - Bronze
Cook and eat a pork chop.

Slaughter a pig, cook its remains and feast like, er, a pig.

Passing the Time - Bronze
Play for 100 days.

Block out the real world! Seriously, though, you should unlock this eventually during normal play. If you don't, find somewhere safe, and leave your PS4 on all day and all night. It'll pop eventually.

Archer - Bronze
Kill a creeper with arrows.

Craft or acquire a bow and arrows, then creep up on a creeper and put one between its eyes.

The Haggler - Silver
Mine or purchase 30 emeralds.

Emeralds are very rare, so for this one we recommend that you use the tutorial. Load up the tutorial world and head into the building on the right where you can trade paper for emeralds. You should get two. Then exit, start up another tutorial world, and do the same. Do this 15 times and the Trophy will be yours.

Pot Planter - Bronze
Craft and place a flower pot.

Find clay which is usually under water. Dig it up with a shovel or your fist, and smelt it into bricks. Finally, craft the pot, and place it down.

It’s a Sign - Bronze
Craft and place a sign.

Get six wooden planks and one stick, then make this simple item using your crafting window.

Iron Belly - Bronze
Stop starvation using Rotten Flesh.

Run and jump around until your food bar is empty and you start to take damage. Then gobble down some zombie jerky, which you've collected from an undead corpse.

Have a Shearful Day - Bronze
Use shears to obtain wool from a sheep.

Craft shears using two iron ingots. Then find a sheep, and click on it with the shears.

Rainbow Collection - Silver
Gather all 16 colours of wool.

Shear lots of white wool from sheep. Then collect all the different colours of dye and use them on the wool. Here is a list of them and how to obtain them:

  • Red dye- Red flower
  • Yellow dye - Yellow flower
  • Orange dye - Combine Red dye with Yellow dye
  • White dye - Bone Meal
  • Green dye - Smelt a cactus
  • Pink dye - Combine Bone Meal and Red dye
  • Lime Green dye - combine Bone Meal with Green dye
  • Black dye - Kill a squid to obtain an ink sac
  • Brown dye - Cocoa beans can be found growing on jungle trees or in a dungeon chest
  • Blue dye - Mine Lapis Lazuli
  • Light Blue dye - Combine Bone Meal with Lapis Lazuli
  • Purple dye - Combine Lapis Lazuli with Red dye
  • Grey dye - Combine an ink sac with Bone Meal
  • Light Grey dye - Combine Grey dye with Bone Meal
  • Turquoise dye - Combine Blue dye with Green dye
  • Magenta dye - Combine Pink dye with Purple dye

Stayin’ Frosty - Bronze
Swim in lava whilst having the Fire Resistance effect.

Load up the tutorial world and go to the building with the brewing stand inside – all of the materials are in the chest. Fill the glass bottles with water from the cauldron and place three in the brewing stand. Next place in some nether wart, and, after it has finished brewing, place in a magma cream. Head over to the blacksmith’s and drink the potion, then jump in the lava.

Chestful of Cobblestone - Bronze
Mine 1,728 cobblestone and place it in a chest.

Dig, dig, dig, dig, dig, dig, dig, dig, dig, dig, dig, dig – we think that you get the point.

Renewable Energy - Bronze
Smelt wood trunks using charcoal to make more charcoal.

Smelt wood in a furnace to create charcoal, and then use that charcoal as fuel to create more charcoal.

Music to my Ears - Bronze
Play a music disc in a jukebox.

Follow the tutorial, placing the disc that you discover into the jukebox.

Body Guard - Bronze
Create an Iron Golem.

Follow the tutorial, placing the pumpkin on top of a T-shape of iron blocks.

Iron Man - Bronze
Wear a full suit of Iron armour.

Mine and smelt Iron, then craft it into armour.

Zombie Doctor - Gold
Cure a zombie villager.

This is arguably the hardest Trophy of the bunch, as you will need a weakness potion and a golden apple in order to cure the zombie. To brew a weakness potion, you need a fermented spider eye which requires a spider eye, sugar, and a mushroom. Then place the fermented spider eye in the brewing stand with three water bottles. Lastly, add in gunpowder to make it a splash potion. For the golden apple you'll need eight gold ingots and an apple. The most difficult bit in all of this is finding a zombie villager; if there is a village in your world, head there and wait for a zombie attack. Once you find a zombie villager, throw the splash potion at it, and then click on it with the golden apple.

Lion Tamer - Bronze
Tame an Ocelot.

Craft a fishing rod and catch 10-20 fish. Then head into a jungle biome in search of an Ocelot. Once you have found one, stand still with the fish in your hand, and wait for the Ocelot to approach. Then keep clicking on the Ocelot with the fish until hearts appear.
