Not quite the Jackdaw, but...

With Assassin's Creed Unity stalking Paris later this year only on next-gen consoles, it's up to Assassin's Creed Rogue to fill in on the PlayStation 3. Other than some sparse gameplay details, we haven't had a good look at the last-gen stab-'em-up yet, but all that's changed thanks to an eight minute walkthrough from publisher Ubisoft.

It's another seafaring adventure, but this time around, you play as Shay, who's loyal to the Templar order. As such, you'll be going toe to toe with the Assassins and the groups that support them, as you sail about the New World. It's an interesting premise, and we reckon that seeing the ongoing war between the two forces from a different point of view will keep things feeling relatively fresh, but we can't quite say the same for the gameplay that's on show here. While the setting is certainly a lot different to the sunny shores of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, it's hard to ignore all of the rather obvious asset recycling. Shay appears to use the exact same animations as the grizzled Edward Kenway in combat, and although there are a few new toys to play with, we can't help but feel that this release looks like a huge step back from Unity's apparent fluidity.

Have you considered doubling down on both of this year's games? Or perhaps you'll just wait for the seemingly inevitable re-release of Rogue on PlayStation 4? Whatever your plans, take a look at the video and let us know if you're as cynical as us in the comments section below.
