Between unexpected Alpha tests and exclusive content, Sony doesn’t want you to play Bungie’s multiformat first-person shooter Destiny on any platform other than PlayStation. However, the consumers in Japan won’t have a choice, as the intergalactic escapade will deploy as an exclusive for the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 3.
While it’s worth noting that the Xbox One won’t even be available in the East until a week or so prior to the futuristic foray’s release, the Japanese giant is actually publishing the game in the region, which is really rather weird when you consider the developer’s age old ties to Microsoft via the Halo franchise.
Of course, it’s probably worth remembering that this is unlikely to set the sales charts alight. While franchises such as Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto have increased in popularity in the Land of the Rising Sun, they’re still not big hardware movers like they are in the West. As such, while it’s a nice coup for the platform holder, we doubt that it’s going to give either of its consoles a major boost.

Was Square Enix not available?
@Punished_Boss Nope, Bungie wanted a 2014 release not 2024
Destiny's RPG elements may make it a hit in Japan
@RawWilson1 Possibly. I think the art style may go down well there, too. It'll probably do pretty good - but I'm not expecting gangbusters.
@Mrskinner
@Mrskinner harsh but true
Makes sense not to bother with microsoft consoles in a territory which ignores microsoft consoles
I really doubt they will make much money in Japan with Destiny. As for the Bungie game being exclusively published in Japan by Sony and they're relationship with them being weird, Insomniac made Ratchet and Clank basically a well known mascot for them, now they're making an exclusive for Xbox One (Sunset Overdrive) and supporting Xbox.
Japan's always had an interest in western sci-fi at least. Star Wars was massive over there, maybe Destiny will prove a hit as well?
Really weird to think that Sony is publishing it, though.
Maybe all Japanse Xbox owners will unite and send Activision a mail with some piece of their minds! By the time they've finished reading all 16 of them, they might rethink this exclusive deal!
@Boerewors 16?, man sales of the xbox must have had a boom in japan last month then
