It didn’t take long for legendary developer Tomonobu Itagaki to begin work on a new title following his departure from Team Ninja. The creator of the Dead or Alive franchise promptly founded Valhalla Game Studios, and set to work on a fresh franchise named Devil’s Third. That game was to be part of THQ’s lineup, but the property was passed back to the Japanese studio after the publisher went bust. Just because it’s been four years since the title was announced, though, doesn’t mean that it’s dead.

The abovementioned luminary has added a new image to his personal Facebook page, flaunting the foray’s updated logo. “We’ll finally reveal Devil’s Third this year,” he explained. “You can see that we’ve upgraded our title logo. I wanted to go for the metallic feeling of the Breitling that I love so much. But I don’t really want to tell you exactly why – sorry.” The game had been set to release on the PlayStation 3, but it’ll likely arrive on next-gen consoles now. Some speculate that Itagaki’s history of Xbox exclusives may lead this to skip Sony’s systems entirely.

Either way, we’ll find out soon. For those out of the loop, the title was originally pitched as a third-person shooter with melee combat. Apparently, it will also feature online play, and will depict a world in disarray due to the destruction of satellites. We’ve included the title’s debut trailer in the space below. We suspect that the release has changed in the four years or so since it was released, though. Are you still intrigued by this game, or do you suspect that it will never launch?
