In the run up to the PlayStation 4's release next month, DC Universe Online is scheduled to receive an almighty update which is said to improve the game for all players on all platforms, including fans of the PS3 version of the free-to-play title.

Dubbed Game Update 31, it's the "biggest technical update" that the release has ever seen according to executive producer Larry Liberty. "In Game Update 31, we have made a combination of art upgrades that, when taken together, offer a significantly improved visual experience," he explained. "Most notably, the level of detail on textures will be increased throughout the game on the PC and PS4, and that’s perhaps nowhere more obvious than when observing the Earth from the Watchtower."

Fans of the action title will notice significant changes to areas such as Centennial Park in Metropolis and Robinson Park in Gotham City, as the visuals have been given a slight make-over. Furthermore, improvements have been made to the game's main environments, providing a more seamless experience for the player. Lastly, a speck of polish has been applied to the core levelling system, with the aim of luring newcomers to the popular MMO.

The update will crash land on the PS3 in early November, but a specific date has yet to be decided. Sadly, the PS4 version of DC Universe Online won't be available for the console's release, but you can expect it to arrive during the black box's launch window.

Update: Sony Online Entertainment has reached out to inform us that it hasn't specified a release window for the PS4 version of DC Universe Online just yet. We're informed that firm details are forthcoming.
