Ubisoft is doing its bit to make war games a little more thought-provoking with digital download title Valiant Hearts: The Great War — an adventure puzzle game with distinctive 2D visuals that draws inspiration from actual letters written during World War One.
The game focuses on five characters — a lovesick German soldier, a downtrodden French prisoner of war, a lucky American volunteer, a devoted Belgian nurse and an English pilot who lied to get into the air force — and the entire tale is linked together by a humble pooch.
A million miles away from the often sickening glorification of war seen in titles Like Call of Duty, Battlefield and Medal of Honor, Valiant Hearts is — according to Ubisoft — more about the people than the action. Despite the cartoon-like visuals, it's clearly intended to pack an emotional punch, as you can see from the fantastic trailer below.
The game will hit both the PS3 and PS4 next year and is being built using the UbiArt game engine, which was developed for Rayman Legends.
