Namco Bandai is turning Soulcalibur into a free to play game, following its experiment with Tekken Revolution. Soulcalibur: Lost Swords is headed to the PS3 later in the year, according to Japanese magazine Famitsu.
The company is also working on Ridge Racer Driftopia, which adopts a similar mechanic.
There's little else to report on Soulcalibur: Lost Swords aside from the name and the fact that it's free to play, with no screens or videos available at present.
The weapons-based fighting series has been through five major iterations so far, not including PSP and Wii spin-offs. Soulcalibur V sold 1.56 million copies worldwide, which was less than its immediate predecessor.

No more new Soulcalibur the new ones are trash all I want is the HD edition of Soulcaliber 2 and that's it but it's free so that at least good.
dem boobs lol It looks like Namco are putting thier key franchises in the F2P arena. Are they in trouble financially? I can't see any logical reason for all these sudden F2P announcements. Maybe F2P is where the money is these days...
SoulCalibur: Cleavage
@MadchesterManc I think it's just trying to explore new business models. Tekken Revolution has been quite well received, although I'm not sure how much profit it's actually making.
I reckon it's safe to assume we'll be getting sequels to these main franchises on next generation consoles. To an extent, you could say that these free to play games will introduce a lot of new players to the franchises - I know a few people who have never been into fighting games that have at least tried Tekken Revolution out simply because it was free, for example. If they like it, they might be on board for a full retail sequel.
That said, there's clearly money to be made in the F2P market, although I'd be more than a little unhappy if all games ended up that way.
Dat Under Boob!
Now that that's out of the way, I'll play this only if Taki is included. Taki was my main reason for even playing SC2, well Taki and Talim - Sophitia drew me in as well.
If its anything like Tekken Revolution then it could be fun. I will give it a try.
Tekken Revolution is great so I'll download this and hope it's as well done. Been a long time since I played Soulcalibur.
Those... eyes.
Since it's Single Player Only, it must have great story and Weapon mode <-- Hope
