Wait, is that the Gaviscon guy?

When the developer of the brilliant OMG HD Zombies and Hungry Giraffe says that it's deep into development on a roguelike title featuring firefighters, you should probably pay attention. Fortunately, that’s exactly what Laughing Jackal has announced this afternoon on the PlayStation Blog, revealing Flame Over for the PlayStation Vita.

“The player’s objective is simple: guide a firefighter through the 16 floors of Infernal Industries’ skyscraping HQ, exploring your environment, seeking out loot, secrets and power ups, and hunting down blazes against the clock,” explained senior producer Alasdair Evans on the PlayStation Blog. Consider us fired up.

The title boasts fully destructible environments, tons of power-ups, and an iconic hero brilliantly named, er, Blaze Carruthers. “The only thing bigger than Blaze’s heart is his luxuriant moustache, and no fire is gonna singe its tips,” joked Evans. It will be down to the brave British hero to extinguish fires, rescue imperilled workers, and capture cutesy cats.

Each playthrough will be randomly generated, meaning that you’ll never quite know where to go. You’ll be able to save your favourite layouts, though, and share them with friends and strangers across the globe using Near. There’ll also be several other score-based modes to stoke your competitive side once you’ve gotten to grips with the core gameplay.

The game’s set to “blaze a trail” on the Vita early next year. Unfortunately, it’s still too early for assets, but Evans promises that we’ll be seeing lots more over the coming months.
