David Hayter, better known as the voice of Solid Snake and Big Boss, will not be returning to lend his larynx to whoever that is in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. The popular performer confirmed the news on Twitter, telling disappointed fans that he had a “good run” as the character. Yeah, we’re welling up as well.
Asked if the actor had even been approached to participate in the project, Hayter simply responded that he hadn’t. It’s certainly a shame, as his voice is pretty much an iconic part of the Metal Gear franchise. How do you feel about the prospect of a sequel without those gorgeous gravelly chops? Honestly, we’re a little bit bummed out.

I'm sure the replacement will sound fine, but I doubt it'll ever be the same. Everyone has their own Snake impression thanks to Hayter's almost comedic gruffness.
@ShogunRok "Voice... has changed."
@get2sammyb Fantastic.
These f'ing game developers. At least Ubisoft tried coming up with some reason (lame as it is in this day and age) for why Ironside would not return as Sam Fisher, this is just idiotic. Won't stop me from playing MGS 5 and while some people will say 'things change' or 'change is good' my counter is change for change sake, which this is, isn't always a good thing and it certainly was not needed.
@Gamer83 When you get older, your voice changes.
Then, when you get even older, it changes back.
...
Yeah, I'm not making much sense.
EDIT: So I had another idea: this is all an elaborate ruse. He is in the game, Kojima is just trolling with us. Again.
Seriously, I'll believe this when I play thorugh MGS V in its entirety.
Well, won't Big Boss and Solid Snake be in the same game soon? I mean if we're continuing from 3 it's PO and PW, then V(?), then the original Metal Gear where they fight. If they remake them all...!!!! Makes sense to have Big Boss become distinct from Naked Snake, tho.
I have boycotted games for less, I believe kojima is up to something .
@charlesnarles you know i agree while i love David Hayter as Snake it didn't really make much sense for Big Boss and Snake to have the same voice i mean in MGS4 they have different voices and about Snake being a clone well so was Liquid and Solidus and neither of them sounded like Big Boss and Liquid was the perfect copy so if anyone would have sounded like Big Boss it would be him
plus you have to take into account where they were raised as children that can affect your accent
honestly i think changing his voice is a good move as long as the new voice fits
Weeps
