Playing both sides

Arguably the most exciting moment during Sony’s GamesCom 2012 press conference earlier today was when Guerrilla Games’ logo flashed up on screen. The ensuing video featured two minutes of live-action melodrama interlaced with footage of the developer’s brand new Vita exclusive, Killzone: Mercenary.

For the first time in the franchise’s history, Killzone: Mercenary will see you fighting alongside Helghast forces as well as ISA specialists. The game is being developed using the same engine as Killzone 3, and it really shows – the shooter looks absolutely gorgeous.

"As a mercenary you’re free to decide which tactics and loadouts you’ll use to fulfil your contract; your employers will reward you with state-of-the-art weaponry and cold, hard cash as long as you get the job done," explained Guerrilla Games' Hermen Hulst. "But what is the price of that freedom – and will you discover it before it’s too late?"

The game’s due out next year on PlayStation Vita. Suddenly the handheld’s line-up is looking a lot more exciting, isn’t it?
