Double kill

When Nihilistic Software lifted the lid on Resistance: Burning Skies’ multiplayer, it primarily focused on the game’s Deathmatch variants. Now it has revealed the Vita exclusive’s third and final multiplayer mode: Survival.

The mode works a little like a deadly game of Tag. The eight-player playlist puts six players in charge of humans, while two assume the role of Chimera. As the Chimera score kills, their human victims are resurrected as Chimera. The match ends when there is only one human player left on the map. Naturally, that player is the winner of the round.

Product manager Phil Lynch explained the design rationale behind the mode:

We really wanted to offer something that was unique to Resistance, keeping with the franchise’s theme around humanity’s struggle to survive against overwhelming odds. We wanted the game to start relatively simple for the humans and then become increasingly harder over time, much like the way the Chimera invaded Asia, then Europe and then America in a flood.

Sony also took the opportunity to reveal the pre-order bonuses for Resistance: Burning Skies. Register you interest in the title at “participating retailers” and you’ll land a bonus code that immediately boosts your multiplayer progress to level five. You’ll also get three PSN avatars and a custom Vita lock screen. Sadly no full-size Chimera skulls, though.
