SSX's handling the online pass a little differently.

We were speculated based on traditions — and we're happy to say that we were wrong.

If you pick up a used copy of SSX you will be able to play the game online, however any rewards you unlock from doing so will remain inaccessible.

Game Informer explains that top-ranking players in the game's Global Events will reap hefty deposits of in-game currency — but only if you've redeemed your online pass.

If you don't have an online pass you won't be able to collect said goodies, but any earnings you do make will be stored alongside your account until you do decide to purchase a code.

Credits are also dished out in Explore modes, and you can claim these regardless of whether you have an online pass or not.

“EA Sports has made a significant investment to offer immersive online services and features. We want to reserve these online services for people who pay EA to access them,” a statement explained.

“Economy balance makes it possible to unlock all available content and allows you to participate in all event drops across both Explore and Global Events, with credits earned solely in Explore.”

It's a novel way of tackling things. We wonder if this sweetens the deal slightly for those put off by yesterday's news.
