Sony's slashed the price of the Tablet S on its online store.

Sure there are anomalies like the Amazon Kindle Fire and other low-budget options, but the big boys continue to ignore the bottom rung of the market β€” the type of consumer that wants to browse eBay while watching old episodes of On The Buses on UK Gold.

Perhaps as a reaction to that burgeoning market, Sony's cut the North American price of its recently released Tablet S. While the deflated price still isn't anywhere near the mainstream figure that the market clearly demands β€” $500 for the 32GB, and $400 for the 16GB β€” it's at least a step in the right direction, knocking a good $100 off the launch price.

At present the price alterations only apply to Sony's online store, and it's unclear if the tweak will be permanent. Seriously though, there's a huge market waiting for whoever can put out a competent machine for $150 or less. Surely one of the big tech manufacturers can see that?
