Could the PlayStation 4 show up at E3? We suppose so, but don't place any bets.

With rumours already swirling around the production of PlayStation 4 titles, MCV has published a bumper rumour this morning claiming that Sony's new home platform will be unveiled at E3 in June.

The website speculates that both Sony and Microsoft will attempt to spoil Nintendo's Wii U coming out party with reveals of their own at the American show.

While it all seems a bit soon to be talking about PlayStation 4, MCV reports that Sony has assured third-party developers that it will not be "left behind" this generation.

Personally, we're not convinced that the PS4 will show up at this year's E3. But it's clear that Sony's learned from the mistakes it made with the PS3, and it will almost certainly release PS4 at a more appropriate time. For us — that would be late 2013.

We expect Sony to keep all its attention on the PS3 and PS Vita throughout 2012. But hey, we're open to a megaton. Bring on E3.
