Battlefield 3 Tournament Offers Enormous $1.6 Million Prize Pot

So much so it's offering console competitors $1.6 million worth of cash prizes in a Worldwide Conquest Tournament in conjunction with Virgin Gaming.

The tournament — which is set to open in early 2012 — excludes PC gamers and is subsequently the biggest prize pool in console gaming history.

“The Battlefield series has always been a very social experience with its best-in-class multiplayer gameplay and we’re honored to have such passionate and loyal fans,” DICE’s Karl Magnus Troedsson said in a press release.

“We want to give them the best Battlefield experience we’ve ever created with Battlefield 3. The Worldwide Conquest Tournament with Virgin Gaming is a great way to celebrate the gameplay and reward our fans.”
