The tropical shooter is in development at Ubisoft Montreal, with input from Ubisoft Shanghai and Ubisoft Massive.

“Far Cry 3 brings something new and unexpected, while still building upon the foundations of excellence that are inherent to the Far Cry brand,” said producer Dan Hay.

“Whether you’re already a fan of the Far Cry series or jumping into the franchise for the very first time, you’re going to be blown away by the gritty story and epic adventure we’re going to deliver.”

The demo at Ubisoft's press conference showed protagonist Jason Brody tied up and dumped in a river. Naturally Brody escaped, and was tearing up enemies with sub-machine guns before too long. One of the most impressive things about Far Cry 3 is the game's colourful, over-saturated world. It looks gorgeous, with a stunning draw-distance to boot.
