Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception Will Take Protagonist Nate To The Desert.

The latest title, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, will take protagonist Nathan Drake to the desert. The game will release in 2011.

The setting, which was rumoured recently, will feature Nate's search for a lost city in the Arabian Peninsula and vast wasteland of the Rub’ al Khali Desert. As the title suggests, the narrative's key theme will be deception.

“When we first came up with the idea of sand, you see everyone’s eyes light up here and go, ‘Yeah, that’s going to be really hard — let’s do it!’,” said Naughty Dog's main writer, Amy Hennig.

“We’re a bunch of nerds. We just look for something that will be a technical, artistic challenge, and allowed us to push into an area of the world and history we’ve never tapped into before,” added co-president, Evan Wells.

The story will centre on the relationship between Drake and his mentor, Sully. We'd expect some cameos from Elena and Chloe too though.

In addition to the single-player, Naughty Dog's also looking to improve Uncharted's multiplayer component.

“We want to take on the big boys of the multi-player genre,” said Evan Wells. “It has become something here at Naughty Dog that will become an important part to all our games.”

Given how good Uncharted 2's multiplayer was, we'd put money on them pulling it off. But right now it's the narrative we're interested in.

The game's due in late 2011. It'll get its first trailer at the VGAs this weekend. There's a teaser after the jump.
