What's the Best Pitching Interface to Use and Why in MLB The Show 24?

In MLB The Show 24, there are five pitching interfaces you can choose from, all of which use the face buttons to let you select the pitch you want to use, and the left analogue stick to select the general direction you want it to go. The options are:

  • Pinpoint: Uses a combination of timing and accuracy to determine pitch outcome, as you trace patterns to execute different pitches.
  • Meter: A triple-click system similar to in classic golf games, where you set the power and accuracy by stopping a needle on a gauge.
  • Pure Analog: Similar to Pinpoint in that it relies on timing and accuracy to determine the pitch outcome, but does not require you to trace patterns to execute different pitches.
  • Pulse: A double-click system whereby the size of the pulsing circle determines the accuracy and outcome of the pitch.
  • Classic: A stripped back option, where you simply need to aim the pitch and execute it with a button press.

The best pitching interface to use overall is Pinpoint, although this comes with the caveat of also being the most difficult to learn. The upshot to overcoming the learning curve here is that it gives you absolute precision, assuming you're tracing the patterns perfectly and getting the timing of your releases right. Spend a little bit of time in the practice mode if you don't feel confident enough with the mechanic, and remember that difficulty is selected independently from pitching interface, so you can still enjoy a slightly more forgiving experience if you're new to the game.

If you simply can't get on with Pinpoint, then we'd recommend Meter as a competent alternative. While this doesn't give you the same level of absolute precision as Pinpoint, it's accurate enough to accommodate more casual players, and you can still enjoy some success with it on the lower levels of online play. If you're planning to spend a lot of time with MLB The Show 23, though, we'd still recommend you take the time to practice and learn Pinpoint for that added accuracy.
