10. Burnout Paradise Remastered (PS4)

EA's first foray into remasters sees the triumphant return of one of the arcade racing kings. Burnout Paradise was ahead of its time on PS3 in many ways, and this remaster proves that; its updated visuals look good, the open world racing is as slick and speedy as ever, and the innovative online features are still better than most. With all the DLC included and an addictive array of events and collectibles, this 10-year-old racer will keep you strapped to your seat for hours on end.

9. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge (PS4)

The TMNT team returns with a super-fun throwback beat-'em-up. TMNT: Shredder's Revenge leans on the nostalgia for games such as Turtles in Time, but it delivers a modern take with simple, satisfying combat and gorgeous pixel art visuals. The adventure may be short, but there are multiple ways to play, including local and online co-op, a one-life arcade mode, and more.

8. SEGA Mega Drive Classics (PS4)

This compilation of Mega Drive titles comprises over 50 games from the SEGA console's heyday. There are so many fantastic gems in here: Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage, Phantasy Star, Golden Axe, Ristar, ToeJam & Earl, Columns — the list goes on. All emulated well and featuring rewind and save states, it's a super convenient way to revisit a host of real classics.

7. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled (PS4)

A wonderful recreation of the PS1 original, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is a real blast from the past. Drift boosting through beautifully rebuilt tracks in the generous Adventure mode or taking the racing online is a lot of fun. Much like the PS1 title it's based on, this is an arcade racing game with tight controls, surprising difficulty, and lots to see and do. Despite some areas that could've done with modernising, this is probably just about the best kart racer on PS4.

6. Resogun (PS4)

Housemarque is a studio known for its arcade games, and Resogun remains one of its best. Like a modern day Defender, you're tasked with blasting away screens full of baddies while rescuing the last of humanity. It's a gorgeous shoot-'em-up with responsive gameplay, endless replayability, and supremely satisfying visuals. If you like a good old fashioned score-chaser, get Resogun played.

5. Hotline Miami (PS4)

The pulsating soundtrack, the acid trip visuals, the unapologetic gore — Hotline Miami is a game that's been copied but never truly replicated. A modern classic, this top-down mobster murder-'em-up is brutal in more ways than one. It's a thrill ride from the word go, and a must-play for anyone who considers themselves an adrenaline junkie.

4. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 (PS4)

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 brings back a pair of absolute classics for a new audience. Remaking both games to modern standards, the package retains the zippy, addictive gameplay fans know and love with up-to-date visuals and a refreshed soundtrack. It's a super impressive game with loads to see and do, including a full suite of local and online multiplayer to enjoy with friends.

3. Beat Saber (PS4)

Beat Saber is easily one of the most successful virtual reality games, and for good reason. Its intuitive gameplay puts a pair of laser swords in your hands, and all you need to do is chop blocks to the rhythm of the music. The direction of the cut, as well as various obstacles, give you a fair amount to think about as you swing your arms around, but it all feels very natural and deeply satisfying. With a large list of tracks (and diverse DLC packs available), there's plenty of music, too.

2. Streets of Rage 4 (PS4)

Streets of Rage 4 finally brings the classic series back, and it does so with plenty of style. Arcadey beat-'em-ups aren't as common as they used to be, but this modern iteration is about as good as they get. Crunchy, satisfying combat is the order of the day as endless goons populate the screen, lining up for a beatdown from classic characters and new ones alike. With both local and online play, you can clean up the streets with some buddies too.

1. Rocket League (PS4)

Supersonic acrobatic rocket-powered battle-cars take to the field in Rocket League, a chaotic clash of arcade racing and the beautiful game. Slick controls ensure that its simple premise scores with Messi-like precision, providing a multiplayer experience that's easy to pick-up but almost impossible to put down. Nifty netcode keeps you on the pitch as much as possible, while unlockables allow you to kit out your car with sombreros and other similarly silly garbs.
