Well the general consensus seems to be late 2027 for a release... do you really think there is any need for a next generation console so soon, I mean I can't think of any games that are releasing in the near future that would'nt be able to run on a PS5 Pro even stuff like the Witcher 4 or Bioshock 4 should we all just wait until there is a proper game library and the inevitable upgraded version of the PS6 is available.
What features would you like to see for the new console and what price do you think it will be £1000?
I'm actually considering diving back to the PS ecosystem in a couple of months, having sold my OG PS5 after the pandemic.
Thinking of getting a Pro, mainly to play Saros, and I'd imagine that most of the PS6 titles (at least initially) will be backwards compatible with the PS5. Save a few titles, such as Returnal / DeS / Ratchet, I think most PS5 titles were BC with PS4 for a few years..
I doubt I’ll get one at launch because I never pre order consoles. I’m not in a hurry to get a new console because there are still a lot of games in my backlog. I’ll get one if asobi comes out with a ps6 exclusive because I loved astro bot. I’ve seen rumors of a new handheld I don’t travel much so I’d only get one if if it has really good exclusives.
I expect a similar model lineup as with the ps5, ie digital or disc, I do expect the disc drive to be available separately as with the current models. However if they ditch it altogether then I will probably not bother with ps6, highly doubtful that they would do this though but you can’t never rule anything out with modern Sony.
Support for PSVR1 and PSVR2. I still use both headsets on my ps5 so ..., I expect VR2 support and VR1 to be 50/50 but I don’t see why not.
A decent GaaS free day one lineup, GT8 aside. This will probably be the hardest goal for modern Sony (#HermenOut. )
And as was mentioned PS3 would be great but I expect Sony to do this on a title by title basis if at all, maximum revenue, maximum disappointment.
@CaptD I'm with you on not bothering in the event of a digital only generation. That would be the nail in the coffin for me. I'd opt for a disc console, mainly because if anything goes wrong, or in my case we can occasionally have sketchy internet and are prone to natural disasters which impact infrastructure, I don't want to not be able to access the games I paid for.
I would also protest that direction as I'd see it as part of the Ensh**tification Movement. Everything being subscription based and all consumer systems being designed to keep you spending money forever, with no ownership or right to repair, remote access blocking/bricking, and constant monitoring.
Now that's not to say I'm wholly against digital games. I have a few. But if anything was to happen to my account or console, there is a slim possibility I'd lose them forever. Discs also do eventually die, but pros and cons you know?
Now to answer the actual question the topic asks... it depends.
I don't know how much they intend to retail the console for here in Australia, nor am I up on any specific titles set to be available on release. Cost of living is huge here right now and I don't know if I'll be able to justify it at that time. I can't see into the future.
I’m going to say no, as I’m fairly happy with my Pro and my large PS4 and PS5 backlog right now… but in reality, I’ll probably be tempted to jump into PS6 within the first few months. FOMO and all that.

I probably will assuming there are no weird stock shortages going on again, I cant be bothered with fighting against scalpers to get one. I was lucky enough to the get the PS5 on release day but it was a lot of hassle.
I've owned every iteration of the console but I skipped on the PS5 Pro as at the time I didnt feel the upgrade/cost was worth it. Now the PSSR2 update is out I believe it is, but I might as well wait for the PS6 at this point so I get more of the better/newer/faster/prettier console fuzzy feelings.
Yes but only because I like to stay up to date on new tech, if I didn't have the means to I wouldn't. I think the PS5 and Pro are good machines with a great selection of games and launch consoles need to do something special to justify people dropping their hard earned cash when they already have a perfectly good machine already. I go for new tech for game selection not graphics, I'll play PS2 one day and PS5 the next, I can't see PS6 being any different. It has to play good not just look good.

@Yousef- It's also a history lesson. I like learning about and experiencing different generations of consoles, it builds a much needed appreciation for it all. I can't get that from current-gen, and so much of it is hated by one group or other for one reason or another. If that's what PS6 will also be like? Then I'll continue to try older consoles/games. If I played only current-gen I'd quit, there's too much negativity/uncomfortable something to it all, I forget all of that when I boot-up a PS2 or PS1. It's like taking a break from something that is already a break, retro seems like it occupied a much more simple/balanced time.

@GirlVersusGame yes I think that’s a healthy mindset too.
History is doomed to repeat itself if we don’t learn from it.
We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we had when we created them, as another wiseman on this forum would say.

Probably picking it up within year one for sure. I don't game on PC and I only own a Switch 2 for Nintendo first party. So being a base PS5 owner the jump to a PS6 makes sense.
It also helps that I truly think we are in a great era of gaming. First party single player is polished and fun as ever, third parties in Japan and Europe are really shaping up well. I cannot think of a time this gen where there hasn't been something to play
Sony hasn't done much this generation to make sure I stay invested in the PS ecosystem. Don't get me wrong, a lot of good game have released over the past few years. There might be even more interesting releases on a yearly basis compared to the PS4 generation. However, I can't really say it has much to do with Sony. They don't seem to be growing the medium like they used to. It's hard to rally behind a console without that kind of vision for the future.
So I guess my answer is that I have no idea. I might, I might not, based on the games. But currently I'm not looking forward to the next generation like I was going from PS4 to PS5!
Yeah I’ve bought all PlayStations bar the PS2 on launch day (wasn’t as into gaming around that time but picked one up shortly after), so I don’t see why not. I did get a Pro over Christmas but I don’t think that will stop me.
@psmr that's sick, when did you wind up getting the ps2?
Also I've Never gotten a console at lunch, We don’t have white market here so all gaming stuff is grey market and as such more expensive so I gotta wait a while before getting a system at its “proper” price
