Topic: What video game did you give up on the quickest?

What game have you abandoned the fastest and why? Did you ever go back to the game and try again and has the same thing ever happened with any other games?

I always like to give most games a chance as some take a while to click, but Everybody's Gone to the Rapture was far too slow paced for me. And I was never sold on the main gameplay loop of walking to a floaty orb and listening to conversations.

Gears of War Jugement. Played it for about half an hour and I couldn't take it anymore. Utter rubbish game even for free.

Most games given away on PS+ to be honest, even if they are probably not all that bad I tend to just fire them up once and delete them.

I would say FFX-2 stands out. I got it at launch and was pretty excited. I hated pretty much everything about it.

Tried it again last year and got a bit further and appreciated it more for what it was, but just thought it was pretty rubbish in other ways.

Ashamed to say it, but the Witcher 3. My fault for starting on blood march, but I cant ever choose a lower difficulty if there is a higher one available. May go back to it one day, but I doubt it. Just too much of an undertaking.

@JohnnyShoulder Good topic! I have so many!

I'd say for a game I actually purchased fully intending to play (like, not Plus or massively discounted): quickest was probably Street Fighter EX on PS1. Don't think I need explain why.
After that, probably Blast Corps on N64, what a load of pap!

Those I didn't return to. I bought and returned Bushido Blade the same day, appalled at the notion that a katana could inflict a one hit kill!! lol In fairness, I was expecting something like Toshinden haha. But I did get Bushido Blade again after reading a bit about the fighting system and a few recommendations. cracking game actually.

I've generally a far keener sense these days of what will and won't float my boat - so it is pretty rare that I'll abandon a game early on for any reason other than laziness/new shiny.

Just like @KALofKRYPTON after all these years of gaming I developed a keener sense of what could possibly interest me, so it is pretty rare that I'd abandon a game early on.
That said, Horizon Zero Dawn...I know it's a great game, I just find it so uninteresting and aesthetically unappealing. It was clear to me after 2 hours that I didn't want to explore that world.

No Mans Sky, i got off the first world and made it to the second and that was it, it was so dull and boring and it's one of the reasons i don't do digital unless i have to now because i can't even get anything back from reselling it as you can't resell digital games

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, as soon as i started the first mission i knew it wasn't for me, it may have been called Metal Gear but it didn't feel like Metal Gear plus the world was empty as hell

Doom and yes i mean the latest Doom, i started playing it and it just felt off, it was floaty and repetitive (OK that ones going on my Unpopular Opinions thread)

@KratosMD these sound like games you actually played quite a lot of and then quit (which I do all the time), how about something you only played for like 20 minutes and thought "nah." Especially when you paid £40 for the pleasure lol

Most recent? Patapon. Played it for half an hour, then quit to do something else and kind of forgot about it for a while. Then when I boot it up again, it said my save file was corrupted and I had to start over again. Thanks game...

In general, though, I hardly ever give up on games. Most of them I complete.

I could fill a whole page of games I gave up on rather quickly, but this would include games I never really had a lot of interest in (ex. multiplayer stuff like like Battleborn, Rocket League, SW Battlefront, ...), or that I made it near the end and ran out of steam due to the game overstaying it’s welcome (ex. Dragon Age Inquisition, Broken Age, ...). Also a fair number I was actually enjoying but got distracted by something newer or more tempting and so I inadvertently got pulled away and have yet to go back and finish yet (ex. Persona 5, Gravity Rush 2, ...) The latter category I technically consider being ‘in process’ and just taking a break from.

But if I focus on games I quickly abandoned that I fully expected to enjoy and was surprised to find that they could not hold my attention, then I would submit the following (I apologize in advance since if you’ve read my various posts before then some of these will sound familiar):
Undertale - despite being excited to try the game with such a cult following, I never quite understood the hook. I played a few hours and haven’t gone back. I kinda plan to try it again, but with each new game release it gets further down the list.
Batman Arkham Knight - I still don’t know why this only kept my interest for a few hours. I adored A. City and A. Asylum. Given the gameplay is similar except the Batmobile, then I have to blame it on the vehicle. I fully intend to go back to this and try it again if I ever get a quiet spot in my gaming.
Guacamelee! - this game just never clicked with me for some reason, and I found it frustrating and easy to get lost about what to do and where to go. I doubt I’ll ever go back to it.
Assassins Creed IV Black Flag - I’ve never understood why this also didn’t click since many consider it one of the best AC games and I extensively played and enjoyed the Ezio games and AC3. Maybe that’s why - AC fatigue at the time? Also the ship battles and travel seemed to wear on me. I might retry AC4 at some future date.
Dark Souls - I just wasn’t a patient enough gamer at the time. I got quickly frustrated as can be expected with my first foray into the Souls genre. However, Bloodborne became one of my all time favorites this year, so I hope to retry DS one day. The remastered version is good reason to try it again, but my backlog is still too big.

FFXV - I just thought immediately that the combat was s**te and I wouldn't enjoy it.

MGS Phantom Pain - The repetitive missions in the samey locations without any relevant story to follow wore me down to the point of hitting the eject disc button.

I think the quickest I stopped a game was BioShock. Not because I didn't like it, but I was getting carried away by other games (I bought God of War Saga, Mass Effect Trilogy, and Batman Arkham Origins around the same time, so yeah....) and got my PS4 not too long after. Only played it once. Once I get some more games done, I'll fire it up again. Otherwise I can't really name any I flatout quit.

Witcher 3 - Couldn't get into it, thought the combat was garbage. Although I do want to go back and try it again.
No Mans Sky - Played for an hour maybe and felt it got samey and boring, never returned.
The Elder Scrolls Online - just didn't click with it.
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture - walk, walk, walk, walk, listen, walk, walk, yawn, sleep, don't rave, delete.
Far Cry Primal - I loved Far Cry 3 and 4 but primal was too slow and I found it boring just using a bow and spear.
Terraria - it's just 2D Minecraft but with fiddly controls.
Assassins Creed Unity - Buggy, buggy and buggy.
Evolve - gets very samey very quickly.

@Kidfried Patapon is probably the quickest I've abandoned a game. I played it on the PSP and just couldn't get into it because of how crap I was at it!

@mookysam Similar situation here, but it was more that I just didn't enjoy it as much as I did on PSP. Same with Locoroco...

Also unrelated tip: Patapon is much harder if you have high latency with your TV. Make sure to put it in game mode if you haven't already.

Wasteland 2 - wanted to play more isometric RPGs after Divinity, spent £15 on it and played it for about 15 minutes before I shut it down and never looked back.

Another World - Got this early on in PS4s life thinking it would be right up my street, really didn't like it and stopped playing very quickly.

Bioshock 1 - played it for one session, wasn't sure what to expect going in (thought it would be more of an FPS than an first person RPG) and found the shooting aspect to be horrific and just gave up and never went back.

Whilst there have been plenty of games which have been successful in whipping me up into a coma, I've always pushed on and, at the very least, seen the story through. There are only three games I've ever abandoned, and I've done so because I simply found them too difficult to complete.

They are Sonic Battle for GBA, Pursuit Force for PSP and Star Trek: Tactical Assault for both DS and PSP. Simply couldn't progress beyond certain battles / missions.

@RogerRoger wasn't Sonic Battle that really bad isometric fighter?
