I resurrected my old PS1 and bought a few old games.
I didnβt know the classic Gunship 2000 PC game had a PS1 version!!!
MechWarrior2 has itβs own special PS1 version?
Batman & Robin had a PS1 game that looks similar to Arkham Asylum?!???
I got βem all from eBay and ready to beat them all over the next few months on original equipment. Is there any place to discuss old titles like these?
Hey! π I'm super late but I was looking over the forums specifically to see if there was a "retro PSX" section or anything, and I pretty much just found your post ππ
I don't feel the love for the old stuff as strongly from the "PlayStation community" but maybe I'm just biased, less acquainted with y'all. πβοΈ
Anyway my psone needs repair, but my PS2 can still just barely play a PS1 disc, so I still play my old copies of xenogears, lunar 1 + 2, ff7, Valkyrie profile, vanguard bandits, parappa, jet moto 2, and a few others.
It's likely, possibly, maybe? My favorite console of all time. It certainly is the most "important" console for me, as far as expanding my horizons and refining my "taste" in gaming. It was a big deal to me, both the "upgrade to 32 bit" and also finally having a non Nintendo console of my own, after rubber necking at all the fancy jaguars and 3DOs and Saturns at Software Etc., Blockbuster, et al, but knowing that they weren't "for me."
That changed when I finally played wipeout on a PSX without knowing what it even was, at a... checks notes...dillards?! π
The split dpad, symbols, handles, and extra "shoulder buttons" on the controller seemed so exotic at the time!
It was the perfect next console for a kid who "grew up" with NES and then SNES, and in some ways was more "Nintendo" as I understood them in the late 16bit era than N64 turned out to be. I kind of think of the PSX and PS2 as the two direct "sequels" of the SNES, because of the history of the PS1 and the iterative nature of the PS2.
I had the first gen demo disc, and I wore that thing out in between white knuckle attempts at wipeout's intimidating final few races.
Anyway, I enjoyed reading your post, and I hope you've continued your explorations into 32 bit in the months since! π
EDIT - my phone really wants me to type "32 butt" π
