Were not far from the 8th generation but this 6th gen console just had it's last game released this year. I think they'll still be produced until 2014.
Probably not that much longer. The only games that are being made for it are sports titles that are available on every other console. I don't even see PS2 consoles in stores by me and I only see PS2 games that are left in stores or the bargain bins. I'm surprised the PS2 has lasted this long, I wonder why games are still being ported to it?
I think they're still being ported because a) a lot of ps3's can't play ps2 games. And b) a surprising number of people are still playing ps2. I agree though - not much longer.
With the next generation of consoles coming up ( Wii U, PS4 Xbox something) PS2 wont go on for much longer. It's still outstanding that it's lived through most of the PS3's lifespan. Usually when the next generation console comes ( Gamecube to Wii, Xbox to Xbox 360, PS2 to PS3) the support and manufacturing for the last generation console only lasts about a year or two, three at most. Though it is given that the best selling console of all time it is not that surprising. But I applaud Sony for continuing production this long, even though I don't see PS2 consoles or games in stores anymore besides used at GameStop and on some store shelves, but in little quantity.
