In my...''opinion'' of course . that game made most of my fingers thoroughly sore from all the fighting it has . i never played ascension (or reboot) , but compared to the others ive played , the combat is relentless throughout the entire story and theres never a chill moment- in a nutshell my memory of the game is enemies spawning every-time you enter another room and soon a boss fight , and i loved it.
GoW 2018 is my favorite. Not to be stereotypical, but I thought the story was miles better. Awkward dad Kratos was so much more interesting than angry vengeful Kratos. The gameplay was probably a wash, since the early games were quite innovative for their time in the gameplay and combat department. GoW3 is probably my second favorite.

I sort of agree with you, not based on constant fighting but the story. I like the tale of him and Deimos and how it humanised Kratos more than the other games (until the reboot), he was still a giant A-hole but slightly less of one.
@nomither6 as I'm currently (& fairly slowly) working my way through the series it's an interesting question to me. I currently have GoW: Ascension and GoW3 left to play.
First things first, I agree with @Th3solution (& presumably everyone else who has played it) that GoW2018 is the best. I've mention many times (in many threads) how much I love that game... its incredible and you should stop reading this now and find a way to play it!
Of the older games (the ones I've played anyway), I would go GoW2... the sword of Olympus and the scenes with Zeus probably swing it for me. I do get what you're saying about GoW:GoS though, it was definitely the most relentless and was the platinum I found most difficult. There was a moment late game where these really tough rock monsters (tanky-spell casters) just kept spawning and I actually thought I wasn't going to be able to get past them for a minute. There was a couple of really tough post-game challenges too.
In fairness to the older GoW though its quite difficult to separate them as they're all incredibly similar... if you like one, you'll probably like them all.
@Th3solution Having played all of the games in my build up to GoW 2018, yeah that is 100% the best of them.
@colonelkilgore I agree with your last point. Whilst I enjoyed them all, there isn't a huge amount of difference between them. I enjoyed GoW3 the most I would say, personally. But in my eyes none of them stack up to GoW 2018.
Never really enjoyed the earlier God of War games as I found them too samey. Not played all of them though, maybe the first two and part of the next one.
God of War 2018 was miles better for me in every single department. One of my favourite games of the last generation. Can't wait to see what happens in the next game.

@Shigurui I liked the story too , i just haven't played it in years and forgot most of it . but when i played it , the story was definitely better than the other ones i played for sure.
I echo the sentiment of others before me, I enjoyed God of War (2018) so much more than any of the previous games. They all felt like fun games but not anything noteworthy except for maybe God of War 3 which was absolutely brutal. But yeah, 2018 was such a departure from the series' formula and it turned out to be really good.

Seems like a lot of people didn't really like God of War before the reboot , i've seen a lot of this around the internet even though GoW was never niche , but wasn't really popular either . i wouldn't be suprised if a lot of people left the franchise after the reboot and got replaced by a lot of new people that like the reboot .

Me and you have entirely different tastes , i guess i'll never grow up lol , i like the minigames. i remember a long time ago seeing my older brother playing one of the games on PS2 and he was playing the minigame , and i started cracking up . anytime i get to one of those parts in the god of war games i gotta play the minigames a few times , haha . the nudity was nice too , i don't mind it ; it adds to the game if anything.
