Topic: Video gamer headphone users: How do you interact with sound?

Hi guys,

I’m currently undergoing a masters degree focusing on the impact that sound can have on immersion and flow when playing video games.

In particular, I am interested in headphone users, and I would like to invite you to fill out a short 2 minute survey that questions your experience and interaction with headphones during gameplay.

The link to the survey is here:

Thank you very much for your time in advance, it's much appreciated and I look forward to receiving your responses!

Cheers,
Steve

Done. Hope I've helped (although, knowing me, I'll be the weird anomaly in your results)!

Interesting topic and good questions. The best of luck with your degree, and I'm sure we'd be interested in hearing of your findings once you've completed your study.

Thanks Roger! Diverse results are exactly what I am after, there is no right or wrong as it is all very subjective to the individual's experience. I will be sure to post the results on here and perhaps a link to my thesis when finished! If you know anyone who would be interested in taking part, please feel free to forward on the survey.

Cheers!

@FriendofaFriend Just had a look and completed the survey, don't really game with headphones as it is too isolating.

I must say though that the wording and response options of your first question seem a little redundant. There's very little point asking about gender identity if the only firm answers are male and female. Perhaps reword it to biological sex?

Hi Kal,

I appreciate your response and your concern. The first two questions are intended for my personal use, which could potentially prove useful in the findings. It allows me to understand roughly who the answers are coming in from as the survey is totally anonymous.

The reasoning for my wording in the first question is because gender identity today can be a sensitive subject, and I wanted to approach it respectfully to ensure that I cause no offence.

Cheers!

Done. Good luck with your essay.
On the herbal subject of using headphone, I use Turtle Beach and it’s more than hearing where shots come from. That’s great no doubt, but hearing enemies in Bloodborne, it let’s locate them and adds to atmosphere when I hear creepy noises everywhere. In Destiny it sounded like a bullet sent through my head when I got shot in the head by a sniper.
Or the best example yet. One time I was collecting frogs in FFXV. Surround sound was more helpful in collecting them than you’d think.

Hi @Jaz007,

Thank you for your response, very interesting comments! May I ask, was the bullet to the head in Destiny a distressing sound? Did you react less to this sound once you were familiar with it over time? Or is it still able to surprise you?

Cheers!

Done...

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

@FriendofaFriend Sorry, but you just joined Pushsquare today... I wonder if this kind of survey may be used for marketing, since you get answers related to a profile with a specific mail. Just curious.

Sorry but this sort of thing is not allowed here I am afraid as per the rules. Personal surveys, and advertisements and such.

Thanks for understanding
