Topic: Top 10 Games of all time (Doesn't just have to be Playstation)

Ok my favourite subject.

I'm basing this list on games I want to play again after finishing them a while ago, not necessarily games I hold in nostalgic high regard like Elite 2, Streets of rage 2, Goldeneye, Earthbound or even Super Mario world. As they wouldn't hold my attention for long. These following games definitely would!

Mass Effect Series
Rocket League
Final Fantasy 7-10
Hotline Miami
Halo Reach
Burnout Paradise
Wii sports
Super Monkey Ball
One Piece Pirate Warriors 3
MGS 5

I consider mass effect a series that has to be played together so cant separate one from any other and with FF7-10 depending on what day it is any of the 4 games could be my favourite.

Looks like I'm the oldest one here then

i remember these! and quite a lot of this list :- http://www.worldofspectrum.org/ystop100.html starquake was probably my favourite speccy game. back then we were amazed that you could get 512 screens in just 40K of memory. these days, it'd probably take a few gigs.

Mine are based on games which have captivated me and changed my perception of what games can be. Some have been bettered along the way, but each has led the charge in terms of gameplay, story or new ways of playing. As such, the majority of these games are from way back.

1. LOZ: Ocarina of Time
2. Final Fantasy VII
3. Shen Mue
4. Phantasy Star Online
5. Wonder Boy 3: The Dragon's Trap
6. Lost Odyssey
7. Ni No Kuni
8. Soul Calibre
9. Dead or Alive 2
10. The Last of Us

It's always hard for me to pick these. For the sake of non repetition mine doesn't include too many picks from a franchise.

  • Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
  • Super Mario Galaxy
  • Final Fantasy X
  • Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal
  • Halo Reach
  • Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
  • Tekken 3
  • Streets of Rage 2
  • Galaga

@DerMeister: On my given day 6 of your picks make my top ten. I would be interested to what you make of mgs 5 as to me the throwbacks and Easter eggs to mgs 3 literally made my hair stand up on end. Galaga though? Man that's rubbish these days.

@Speedy67: Great game, but any one of tecmo koeis straight brawlers would get in - Gundam Warriors 3, Fist of the North star and Dynasty Warriors 6 are all amazing. I'm not so fussed on the tactical games they make. Pure fighting all day!

In no particular order

Streets of Rage 2
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Ducktales
World of Warcraft
Call of Duty: Black Ops II
Smash TV
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Tekken 3
Final Fight CD
Super Mario Bros 3

Really it all depends what I am in the mood for at the time. If I want a brawler I play SoR2 and that's my favorite game at the time. If I am in the mood for CoD BO2 is it. RPG, WoW etc.

@themcnoisy: Honestly I'm just glad you mentioned One Piece in general! I haven't managed to play any of the Pirate Warriors games yet but I intend to, although I might be more tempted by Burning Blood.

@themcnoisy Well, I haven't played MGSV for starters, as I still need a PS4. I'll message you on PSN after I play it one day.

As for Galaga, I wanted to put one of my arcade favorites on there (Pac-man, Rally-X are the others), and I picked it because I played it the most. I still enjoy it personally.

Top 10? All time? Impossible! Here's a list though that probably closely approximates that for me

Starcraft (PC) - The best RTS of all time still stands up today and, for me, is still better than its good sequel. A game that had me dragging a PC to friends to play by LAN and being happy about it.

Planescape Torment (PC) - Excellent story based RPG that you owe it to yourself to play if you haven't. Be warned that reading is required to get through the million+ words of dialogue.

Sensible World of Soccer (Amiga) - You can stick Fifa and Pro Evo, Sensi was doing arcade football better than they ever would back in the 90s.

Half-Life 2 (PC) - It is sad, but the first person shooter has not been bettered in the 12 years since HL2 first came out.

Final Fantasy 7 (PS) - It used to be the hip choice, but now the hipsters tell you you are following the herd by picking this. Whatever, it is a great RPG that deserves a place in anyone's collection.

Dark Souls (PS3) - The game that refined Demon's Souls into probably the best action adventure game to ever exist. Future titles could never beat its intricately designed areas that wrapped back into one another. Only Bloodborne comes close to this for me. One of the few games I have a platinum in and, as I've said elsewhere, I don't ever chase trophies which should tell you something.

Mass Effect 2 (PS3) - Best game in the series by a mile, the character interaction made you actively chase side missions for them and by the end you was actively invested in your dirty dozen style squad. The PS3 version having the bonus of almost all the DLC really helped the package too.

Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) - A lot of people say the second one is better and it may well be, but it would never have the surprises the first one threw at you and for that it loses out for me. Easily the best Mario game I ever played and it has some stiff competition.

World Of Warcraft (PC) - A life sucking leach of a game, but you won't really mind when you're in it. It has been going 12 years and is the MMO all others aspire to be which should tell you something. Any game that I can play for around 4 years before needing to take a break from it though must be doing something right, just be warned that willpower is also required if you get sucked in.

Factorio (PC) - The game isn't even finished yet, but is already better than any other sim/base building game ever devised. A game that can make you feel supremely clever and then completely thick within minutes of a 'plan' coming together and has that ability of making you wonder where the last 8 hours of your life went. Buy it to help you understand that Early Access doesn't have to be a swear word.

Think that's 10 and I could go on, but that list will do for now.
