Best 2015 Punk and Alternative Rock Albums by JamieOretro:

I've been blissfully blasting out punk rock music since I first heard McRad shredding on Powell Peralta's Public Domain skate VHS tape in the late 1980s, and during the same time skateboarding sent me on a mission to learn about alternative rock music, too.

Back in November 2009 I posted an NLife Punkers & Alternative Rockers Thread to discover if many Nintendo Life readers enjoyed similar music to my guitar lick pluckin' tastes, so since I've listened to over 30 new releases this year, I thought I'd share my favourite 2015 albums with Push Square's punk rock fans. If you appreciate these music genres it'd also be cool to hear about your favourite songs and albums that were released this year.

Have a most excellent 2016 everyone, all the best for the New Year, Push Square!

I am passionate about retro gaming, from antiquated consoles to the continuation of classics. Obviously I love PSone, and PS2 retro games. I blast my ears to breakneck melodic punk, gruff vocals and nimble alternative guitar hooks.

I've always tried to get into The Wonder Years, but I can't get past the somewhat whiney vocals. I do love Red City Radio and the Teenage Bottlerocket (although Wyoming was just OK IMO). Beach Slang's album was great! A little samey at times, but they could be onto something big.

Nice list overall! It seems like we have similar taste, although unfortunately I haven't been keeping track the best during the last two or three years.

@sub12 Nice one, the two Beach Slang EPs were recommended to me last year, and my same good friend told me about Red City Radio's self-titled album this year. I'm glad that he tuned me into both of those bands. It's good to find a Push Square member with similar music taste to me, too. If you have any punk recommendations that are not on my list, I'd be happy to check them out.

Happy New Year, mate!

@JamieO: I am probably the last person to talk about new music since I am still stuck on 80's and 90's metal lol mainly stuff like Metallica, Guns N Roses, Nirvana just to name a few. I do hope you do have a great New Year!!!

I know it's not really punk but I recently got into Rage Against the Machine and I can't believe I didn't listen to them earlier.

@JamieO:

I checked out the two Beach Slang EP's after you made mention of it. Pretty good stuff, I'm surprised it didn't make it onto the full album.

Unfortunately though, as I said, I don't follow new music as much as I did 3 or 4 years ago. Pretty much my revolving list is Frank Turner, The Loved Ones / Dave Hause, The Bouncing Souls, Chuck Ragan, Gaslight Anthem (I know it's trendy to dislike them now, but I still really appreciate what they do)......after mentioned Teenage Bottlerocket and Red City Radio.......Iron Chic (which is akin to Beach Slang and others), Jimmy Eat World, Social Distortion,............The Copyrights (you might like them if you like Bottlerocket).

I also like a lot of 90's grunge and alternative stuff........as well as some industrial and the alike (stuff like VNV Nation and Assemblage 23.......I'm not pissed of each enough anymore to listin to more extreme acts of the broader genre, although stuff like Grendel and Imperative Reaction is still good).

@Anchorsam_9:

The self-titled and Battle for LA are still seminal albums for sure.....Evil Empire was kinda meh IMO. Awesome band though.

You might also want to check out some alternative country-western, Uncle Tupelo (Graveyard Shift), Son Volt (Route), Steve Earle (Copperhead Road, one of the best songs ever), his son Justin Townes Earle (Wanderin'), Drive-by Truckers (Birmingham).

Churchy

They've progressed out of their more hardcore material but I can highly recommend Everything is Fine by Hawk Eyes.

There was a game idea here. It's gone now.

Don't really like punk don't really listen to punk, there are a few bands I like that are cross genre type bands like Hed PE, Skindred, Atari teenage riot and Napalm Death. Apparently murderdolls and Biohazard are punk influenced but I wouldn't say any I've listened to is punky. That's right, I don't tend to listen to new/upcoming bands because most are crap and I don't have the time, I usually pick up new bands at gigs and festivals.

@Bad-MuthaAdebisi:

Yout can find something good in any genre these days.......the key is that you have to seach for them.
