Topic: What old games would you go back to if a PS5 could play the discs

With the PS5 backwards compatibility rumours I wondered what games everyone would play from the older PlayStation generations if the PS5 could run all the old discs.

I would want to replay Dragon Quest: The Journey of the Cursed King (PS2)

SSX3 into my veins

And Max Payne 3. No desire to play much else. Perhaps Tomb Raider Aniversary and Dead Space 2/3.

@Ryall Final Fantasy VIII as it doesn't look like a re-release is ever coming

heck basically any PS1 PS2 and PS3 FF that hasn't been re-released on the PS4, OH and Metal Gear too, Legacy of Kain series, the old DBZ games like Budokai and Tenkaichi

there are so many

"I pity you. You just don't get it at all...there's not a thing I don't cherish!"

"Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!

@Ryall Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus. Loved them when I was younger but a lot of the jokes and themes about workforce exploitation probably went over my head. I've been meaning to replay them for a while.

Also, I bought Suikoden III from the store for the PS3, right before my wife surprised me with a PS4. As a result, I've not played it yet, because the PS3 went upstairs. I love Suikoden but no way am I playing it on a chair that's ten times too small for me.

Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.

If it upressed and stuff I might find a copy of Steambot Chronicles and play that. I might find a couple others too, but it would need to have that really good looking upressing.

I'm really enjoying Persona 5 at the moment, so I'd be up for trying out the older ones if they don't get the remaster treatment by then. I didn't have a PS3, so there's probably a few exclusives on there that haven't been remastered that I might enjoy.

There's also some PS2 games that I wouldn't mind revisiting, and see whether I'd enjoy them as much now as I did back then, such as James Bond 007 Nightfire, the Ratchet and Clank games, Sims Bustin' Out, and Spider-Man 2.

Edit: also the original Nier. As Nier Automata is currently my favourite PS4 game, I'd like to go back and see what Yoko Taro's previous games are like.

@Ryall nice topic.

@Rudy_Manchego great pick. I prefer Future Perfect as a package strangely.

It's really difficult to pick an old game now so these games from PS4;

Astrobot, Yakuza zero, HZD, Spiderman, PES 2018, Statik, Darius Burst CS, Persona 5, Rogue Legacy and Rocket League which are all arguably best in class.

Plus I would say Mass Effect 1-3, Command and Conquer and Everybody's Tennis.

I don’t have many past gen system discs, even from the PS3. I might be able to dig up a few PS2 discs somewhere in a box. But the one I’d be most likely to play if I could get it is a copy of Metal Gear Solid. I almost want to buy a PS One Classic just for that single game.
I also like the idea of playing through all the old Persona and SMT games, and the old Final Fantasys. Also Vagrant Story, Legacy of Kain, Parasite Eve, and the early Tomb Raiders. But I have no idea how difficult it would be to find physical copies of those.
As far as more modern games, Yeah I think we really need to be able to play all the Mass Effects on latest gen hardware. And I want to be able to play all my backlog PS4 games that I’m sure to still have when PS5 releases.
Which brings up the point @Frigate made — I’m not sure I’d honestly play most of these older games from the PS1, 2, or 3. Early in the next gen cycle I’ll play a lot of PS4 games, but I’m sure I’ll be knee deep in new releases after a couple years, just like I am now with PS4 games and just don’t have time for PS3 stuff.

Mostly games still stuck in my backlog. I find it annoying that I still got to keep my PS3 around so I can play MGS4 one day (why is this not on PS4?!).
I don't really replay older games, but if the PS5 had some sort of 'Boost' mode for older titles I'd replay some gameplay heavy games again. NieR Automata, Nioh & Bloodborne would probably top that list.
Going further back I'd also love to play TS: Future Perfect, True Crime: Streets of LA, Need for Speed Underground 2 & FFXIII again.

None. I dont keep my old consoles or games. I doubt I would use BC a great deal as any game i would be interested in i would prefer them to remaster instead.

I'd play all of them, because my shelves are packed with most of my favourite PSone, PS2 and PS3 games. Whether I'd keep playing them on their native consoles or not depends on A: how long my PS2 Slim and PS3 Super-Slim are gonna last, and B: how good the PS5's functionality is (if it's even true).

We're talking a lot of licenced games (Bond, Star Wars, etc.) that'll never get remastered or re-released digitally, as well as a healthy handful of 3D Sonic the Hedgehog games.

I’m with @JohnnyShoulder that I’m not the used about backwards compatibility. Once I’ve moved on, I’ve moved on.

I’ve picked up a few remasters like the Crash and Spyro games but that’s because of the improvements they’ve made to the games. I also picked up the God of War remakes on PS3 as I hadn’t played them before.

A lot of older games now look terrible just from how big TVs are now. PS1 games I played through the PS3 looked horrible.

Thrillho

themcnoisy

@JohnnyShoulder @Thrillho But if we already had BC and knew we could use it, you may have kept a selection of games.

The fact we don't have BC and it isn't an option means old games just take up the limited space in storage.

@themcnoisy Nah I've never kept old games, even on current systems as they get traded. My PS4 and games will be traded in for whatever next gen console I decide to get(and that is not 100% gonna be PlayStation). It's good for people that use it, but certainly would not use it a great deal. I buy a new console to play the new games on it, not to play old games that look/play like trash.
