So I have no idea if this is just a minor problem as I'm not sure how many people do the same thing.
But basically, when playing games on the PS4 I got into the habit of taking a ton of screenshots both in gameplay and cutscenes. However, the way I would go about this is to record a 30-minute clip so that then I could go into that clip later and trim down any cool moments, again both gameplay and cutscenes and I would also take screenshots of single frames. The reason I did it this way is sometimes stuff in cutscenes happens so fast and I don't always wanna have trigger fingers when trying to catch an image during a cutscene, so the 30 minute record-back time was a blessing.
I found that the PS4 accommodated this incredibly well. Once you entered a clip you could choose to go through the frames of the clips in, 1,5,15,30 or 60-second intervals and as such, I would go through cutscene clips at a 1-second interval and capture any cool-looking moments. Now when editing a clip on the PS4 you can both trim the video down and take a screenshot by simply pressing 'Options' and selecting one of the two options and this worked great!. Also on PS4 the ***** reel bar is beneath the ***** images so I can actually see what I'm trying to look at! (This will be important when comparing to the PS5).
Now unto the train wreck of the PS5.
First of all, if you take screenshots or videos on the PS5 it will sort them into albums much like the PS4 HOWEVER if you are then done with the game and delete it off your hard-drive the album will then be changed to UNTITLED instead of keeping the game cover art.
Then we come to capturing a screenshot and trimming (oh boy!) so again unlike the PS4 when you can do both trimming and capturing a screenshot via pressing the 'Options' button. The PS5 has decided that you have to back out of the video and select one or the other options which is incredibly tedious, to say the least. And the frustration doesn't end there because another great part is when you trimmed the video on the PS4 and selected 'Save as New Clip' it save the new video and then back you out but the cursor would remain on the original clip you was editing but on PS5 it moves the cursor all the way back to the top of the list again so I have to scroll down to find the original clip I was editing (again this could be a me problem but I record like 25+ clips for certain games and then when I complete the game, I edit every video afterward so scrolling down a list of 25 videos is frustrating).
You can no longer change between 'Screenshots Only' or 'Videos Only' whilst in a particular album.
BUT the absolute worst offender of all.
IS THE REEL BAR FOR EDITING BLOCKS 40% OF THE CLIP!.
So I can't even see what I'm editing half of the time.
Additional Information after continuously using the garbage PS5 Capture Gallery - 30/11/2020
If you rotate an image it will automatically zoom-in on the image and you can't zoom back out, so the rotate screenshot function is straight-up broken.
If you pull a screenshot from a recorded video then there is a 6/10 chance that the image you screenshotted will be the correct image in the preview thumbnail but when actually selecting the image it will be a completely different image from a few frames ahead.
You cannot just repeatedly take screenshots due to the fact that the image will also capture the PS5 'Capture Taken' notification in the top right of the screen (although this was also the case with the PS4 which is why I used to take screenshots from videos to compensate for this)
Selecting 'Make Cover Image' does nothing and does not change the Cover Image - instead you have to do this via 'Edit Profile'
Honestly, in the grand scheme of everyone, I guess this is going to be a minor problem but it's nonsensical that SONY would take such a huge step backward when the PS4 Capture Gallery was just right except for the occasional freeze and crash every now and again which in all honestly in regards to the Capture Gallery is all the PS5 needed to fix.
Please Sony is you happen to come across this (which I doubt), please reconsider on tweaking the Capture Gallery to be more like the PS4.
