Topic: Probably won't get my PS5 tomorrow because of a stupid DPD rule

So I ordered my PS5 from Box.co.uk. A small retailer, but one I have trusted in the past. Well this afternoon I got an email telling me that my PS5 has left the warehouse. I paid an extra £10 for guaranteed delivery by 10AM with DPD, because I want this big machine as quick as possible. I go to check the tracking information on DPDs website and boom I'm hit with a message at the bottom of the page. I must show photo ID to the driver because of the value of the item.

I imagine this is not a problem for most people. But me - I don't drive, I don't currently have an active passport, I don't have a job in the military and I'm not a police officer. These 4 types of ID are the only forms of identification DPD accept. I do however have an old UK proof of age card I used when I was 18 to get served in pubs. Should I try my luck... Calling up customer service I was basically told it would be up to the drivers discretion. Most likely I'm getting some driver who will stick by the rules and will just take the PS5 back to the depot. Ugh...

You don't have ID cards in the UK?

@Octane We don’t. Pretty much everyone has a passport as it’s the standard identity document you use to prove who you are. I once ended up signing for one of my customers deliveries when I was just there to change the gas meter. Because I carry my driving license and they didn’t have any form of ID.

I would suggest if @lethaljoe has an expired passport he should show the delivery driver that, it’s just a tick box and they won’t be checking it carefully.

@lethaljoe I have a passport which is like 20 years old which has been used to accept delivery for high value items and booze. You can always use something which has your name and address on as well, like a letter from the bank or something.

@JohnnyShoulder Unfortunately my last passport was a photo from when I was 14 so I really did need to renew it last year for the sole purpose of buying alcohol 😂😂

I reckon you'll be fine. I've had plenty of deliveries from DPD and they've never asked me for any form of ID. And if they do, I'm sure showing then a credit or debit card will be fine.
