Well, in terms of 'Offline' games, I'll choose God Of War
Now, in terms of 'Online' games, I'll choose Fortnite. All of my friends and cousins dont understand the concept of 'Offline' games so they play Fortnite 24/7
it’s only right for me to go with my favorite game of all time
but that would really suck . i haven’t played that game in almost a decade , it’s so old & i can only play a game for so long until i’m ready to move on to the next or something new
I think if I had only 1 game to play, I'd want something that I could literally play indefinitely - so it would have to be something like an Elder Scrolls Online.
As much as I loved the Witcher 3 (and DLC), Horizon:FW, God of War etc (the last two I got the platinum in a week), Once I had completed 'everything' and reached the end of the story, I'd want to move on to the 'next' game. So I'd really need something that I could play indefinitely. A multi-player and/or 'decent' Co-operative online games (like Left4Dead, Destiny etc) are also dependent on having friends online at the same time and wanting to play the same game to break up the 'monotony' of doing the 'same' thing over and over again. At least in ESO, you can play solo, go exploring, complete missions etc etc.
ESO or games like this are not really my 'preference'. I'd rather play Skyrim but that is much more 'finite' on content and whilst I could drag out the overall time, ESO would continue to evolve, add more and more so i wouldn't become bored and 'finished' with it.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
My instinct would be to go with @colonelkilgore and say Bloodborne since the number of builds and weapons makes for nearly an endless supply of replayability.
Since he’s already taken that one, I might go with Red Dead Redemption 2, especially if I can include the RD Online with in (which it is all part of the same package). But even just the single player portion is huge enough to lose thousands of hours of replayability. The world is so interactive and dynamic based on decisions you make that you can easily replay the single player portion over and over and get slightly different experiences. The only downside is the gameplay loop and shooting isn’t exactly the best in the world and I could see it getting a little old over hundreds of hours. But I think all the exploration and life sim aspects make up for that and it could still be enjoyed for years and years.

Oooft.. 1 game. Probably Final Fantasy 9, I get a lot of pleasure from playing and thinking about that game. But it's not like I would play it endlessly - just over and over again with big gaps in between.
@VivianXD2464 In this hypothetical situation are other games still being released so you'll still see all the new shiny that you are not allowed to play? Or is this like a Desert Island Discs type scenario where you won't see anything that's going on in the outside world?
I've thought about a top ten or fifteen games for a 'Desert Island Discs' thought experiment before, but picking just one would be impossible. It's actually hurting my brain right now!
"We want different things, Crosshair. That doesn't mean that we have to be enemies."
@VivianXD2464 Just trying to picture the scenario as if it's the only game I'll ever play then I want to make the right choice.
If I could see all the new stuff that I wasn't allowed to play then I think I'd have to purposely choose something awful so that I basically got a new hobby.
Now if I'm on a desert island then as long as it's an island with Wifi built in (and a power supply) then I'd go for Dreams as new content is being added to that all the time, plus you can make your own stuff which would be handy for those long drags while waiting for another ship to go past. It could be made better with an endless supply of rum as I can imagine you could come up with some pretty whacky creations after a few and once you'd sobered up it would be fun to see what you got up to the night before.
Edit: I've just picked a huge hole in my own plan there, I mean if you've got Wifi then you could probably just use that to summon help rather than wait for a passing ship.
@render Oooh, good shout with Dreams. Hadn’t thought about that one but you’re right it would be a perfect one to serve as your only game for the rest of your life.
I’d considered taking the opposite approach as we have been doing with all these huge open world sandbox types of experiences and go with something like Tetris. I wonder if the simplicity of gameplay might be a better approach for the long haul.

Definitely an open world game with as little story as possible. As much as I love Persona, Trails of Cold Steel and so on, they are linear games with a story and so I would just get fed up having mostly the same experience over and over.
The first game that comes to mind would be Breath of the Wild. It has such a massive open world that it's so easy to get absorbed in it and there are things to discover at every turn. You can explore the areas in any order you like, so it would feel like a different experience every time for me. Not to mention that it's just such a cozy game. I spent 100+ hours playing it on Wii U and 40+ hours on Switch and as I watch streamers play it, I keep getting the craving to play it again. If it weren't for my huge backlog, I'd probably be playing it all the time now actually, lol.
