The overall map is roughly the same size as GTA 4, GTA 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined
I'm sorry but that is absolutely bonkers to me, but I exploring every inch of the map, obvs there won't be side quests or activities everywhere but there will still be amazing scenery to get lost in.
The entire arsenal of weapons you have access to is stored in the boot / trunk of your car
That's a nice touch and clearly inspired by the saddle bag system in RDR2
Every car has a fuel gauge and engine health, and refilling the tank is easy
This maybe the most controversial change, until I have experienced it I will hold judgement but my mind immediately went "I hope it's not too annoying"
Anyone else have any thoughts from the latest article?

@Oram77 As one who is ‘undecided and leaning toward avoiding the game entirely’ a few things piqued my interest on those latest details. The overt inspiration from RDR2 is the main thing that has me intrigued. The open world chaos and online shenanigans that colors the GTA games is of little interest to me, but if they can tell a story and make me care about a character like I did for Arthur Morgan (and John Marston), then they might hook me. I just don’t really see the urban crime scene as an attractive setting for me personally, so I’m having trouble getting beyond that. But the RDR2 inspiration references are what keep me researching the game.
The sheer size of the map is something I’m blown away by, but also terrified of. The game almost certainly will be an entire life drain, which is something that sounds almost too daunting at this point in my life. As someone who usually likes to ‘see and do everything’ in a game, I don’t think that’s possible with GTA6. When I played RDR2 I was in a different phase, as were we all, 8 years ago when the world seemed simpler, no one had ever heard the term “Covid” and “pandemic” referred to something in ancient history, and “AI” was a corny Sci-Fi movie with the kid from Sixth Sense. Even with a much simpler life and much more free time and a lot fewer games in the backlog, RDR2 was a big timesink. A timesink that I absolutely loved, but a timesink all the same. I remember having my socks knocked off when I got to the point where you realize the entire map for the first RDR game is a mere added minor extension to the large map you’d already spent dozens of hours exploring. So, I’m just a little worried GTA6 might be too big for me.
The other thought I had from the recent article and other articles lately is just the impressive visuals. I might want to play it just for the eye candy. Perhaps the game can be played just like an ultra realistic life sim that is fun to merely be a tourist in a virtual city, like going there to sightsee on vacation. 😄
@Oram77 The map size doesn't bother me too much, part of games like that for me is the open-world and I do plan on exploring. I'd need to see the different regions, and really grasp the depth of each side-activity. I'm not really won over by the fuel system, I think that's a little too much. The trunk makes sense and was expected but K9s aren't necessary and I don't like hurting animals in games so that feature in my opinion needs a toggle. If I'm in a region where a wild animal attacks then of course I'm going to defend myself, but domestic animals and K9s, I'll be avoiding both.
I'm not sure about the relationship mechanic either, I tend to reserve that kind of thing for The Sims, but we'll see how it turns out. It all depends on how forced the mechanics are, I want to play/experience a game not to live my life inside of it. Most games I play have level-up systems/upgrades to unlock, there's a system of progression and Grand Theft Auto is more like a sandbox or choice. When it's that realistic I tend to choose real-life over the game, that was my experience with the Fifth one. I played it, finished the story and then deleted it. I didn't feel any pull to do any of those side-activities and I couldn't identify with any of the characters, the disconnect didn't help.
I do trust Rockstar to get it right but I'd hope that certain mechanics aren't there to slow the player down, rather they are there to enhance the experience and that's a tough balance. I'm still mainly going to be there for music/visuals and the story. I'm sure I said it already but a game like this has to exist within the realms of reality and reality has limits, I suppose it also depends on a person's actual life too. Different people want different things out of the game and in my opinion part of the franchise is a power fantasy, which is fine, it's not that I've matured out of certain games more-so I've discovered what I prefer to get from a game when balanced with my actual reality. And I when it comes to unnecessary violence I'm not their demographic, so I suppose the simulator aspects will hit either just right for me or it will feel a little tacked on. I think for myself I find a different kind of power in more fantasy driven/creative games, I can't fight a dragon in real-life but I can fill my trunk with firearms. The series hits differently for people and like I said it depends on their offline. Anyway the game is still something like twenty-days away. I'm sure it will be fun, that's all I'm really looking for. I don't think it will be life changing, I'm balancing my expectations and I can't really judge a product unless I've spent time with it. I think I need to start avoiding spoilers too.
These violent delights have violent ends & in their triumph die, like fire & powder Which, as they kiss, consume.
@Oram77 okay. If that is now the official map size, it sounds even bigger than Rob Nelson's first tease, and is making me think of the song leaving on a jet plane, for some reason. I doubt they could have kept that a secret though, so I shouldn't fool myself. It'd be cool if they keep up the tradition of an Off-Map area though.
I do remember back when I was younger and there were discussions about what a next GTA could be like that a few of my main wish-list ideas were Airport-based drug smuggling or multi city fast travel and potential for leaving the main map in a more advanced way than the snowy segment in GTA 5, Guarma in RDR2 etc, Mexico in RDR1 is probably the most in depth, but that was done in a more normal GTA-like way via a river border. It'd be cool to have a Cuba or Mexico moment, or even... I won't even dare say it... a quick trip to Liberty City. No, I won't say it. I shall not say that. No, no.
And number two was that cars genuinely mattered more, like the horses in RDR2. They were part of your survival, and there was a bond there, and that would mean that your car would now also hold your money, guns, drugs etc maybe you can even live out of it as a form of camping when away from your safehouse 😱. I think the fuel gauge and engine condition adds a slightly deeper connection to it, so that if we plan on making a longer journey we should be taking care of the car that will get us there. Mafia had fuel gauges, but as they were limited to not being about the open world I don't remember needing to refuel much. In GTA it might come down more to picking the right car for the job, and just thinking a bit ahead, which I like. It also means i'll be RPing the game more, and thinking more overall (another of Rob's teases that the game is decided for thinking now) so, for me, no shiny sports cars when i'm in the swamplands or when i'm based in other speicifc areas. I'm going to blend in and immerse myself in the different communities as I become a part of them. Underground racing/modding scene? Yes please. Swamplands trucks, boats and bikes? Oh yeah! Big city G-Wagons and sports cars, and a lot of posing, lets go!
(I'll add a response here as it is going to be mostly GTA) @GirlVersusGame I just know I play games slow, and sometimes I just don't game, and so GTA will take a long time in terms of days to get through. RDR2 was like that. I'd play it 2 or 3 hours a night, and it lasted me months and months like that. I just don't have the capacity to be able to move through lots of games one after the other, like I say I drift in and out of gaming, anyway.
With GTA being open world I will definitely get some longer sessions in when I can, and just explore it, see what I can make the game do, test its limits, immerse myself. It feels like it will be the kind of game that can be so different for many people, though, some may want a racer and car modification sim, some may want exploring, walking, chilling, some may want mindless chaos, some want a cinematic crime movie, some may want to role-play the characters. I think whichever type of experience you pick it will have enough depth to justify being a game of that type, even if some of the other stuff isn't for you. And I'll probably be a mix of all that, depending on my mood, to be honest. Sometimes I will just want to customise a gun or a car, sometimes just take a drive, sometimes I will want to photograph the world or explore to see what I can find, sometimes I will want to be locked into the story or character arc, and sometimes I will want to do some mindless crime or cause chaos for npcs.
And, as in all things. If any NPC or character even considers harming a doggy or any pet, I will hunt them down and maybe harm them in as creative a way as I can muster. I feel like someone kicked a dog in a RED Dead game, perhaps, and they did not survive the night. Rockstar does tend to put these opportunities into their games. They had the Klan that were very explodable with upgraded tnt, the eugenics dude. I have a funny clip from GTA 5 with the paparazzi guy, he gives me my mission and I just run at him full speed and punch him in the face. Unfortunately that fails the mission, though 😂 but yes, there will be plenty of c***s to hunt, I think.
Also, that reminded me that we can probably find a way to roleplay as Dexter Morgan. First Vice City since that show aired 💀 so there will hopefully be plenty of... fishing trips if the game is going to be full of awful people.
And GvG. I know it isn't an open world game where you can level up, as such (although maybe some of the health and fitness mechanics are tied in further, like in RDR2 it did affect in a small way your stamina, health etc) but think of it this way, you're levelling up reputation and money, maybe even influence so that different opportunities arise, and there will be lots of things you can collect and modify and customise, like you do in sim games. Seeing who can get the fanciest cars and gun collections and using photomode to show off collections couldd be a cool little Push Square thing we all do. I want to learn more about Urban Photography and will probably use the game to help with that, too.
Pre-ordered. Stated the the game will be playable from 0:00 19th November. As I've got that day and a few more days off work, will most likely stay up and play it for a bit.
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
@JohnnyShoulder One of us, one of us. Congrats, and it being a midnight release means I'll probably play until two in the AM, technically I could play all night but I value my health more and the game will still be there the next day. Hopefully it will be a bug free experience, it would want to be given how big the studio is, how much they've put it out there and how many copies they've already shifted.

Wow months, I think Red Dead Redemption 2 for me was perhaps two-weeks, it's just how like we explained wiring and different methods. What do you do when you drift out? When I drift out I focus on other hobbies, I never force myself to game just to spend that allocated time, then it wouldn't be as engaging or as important to actual growth. Grand Theft Auto isn't about growth for me, it's more cinematic and one of those big exceptions I make for the narrative. The rest is the exploration.

That's what I'm expecting, but I know going in what I'm looking for. The zoo visits, walking, the exploring, nature, and the rest will come when it comes. Red Dead Redemption 2 was the same, I mostly explored, picked flowers, and worked on the story between those smaller adventures.
And, as in all things. If any NPC or character even considers harming a doggy or any pet, I will hunt them down and maybe harm them in as creative a way as I can muster. This is the right way to do it, if people in the world harming animals is a thing then I'll find the nearest body of water and they will be going for a swim. I liked shooting the Klan in that game too.
Also, that reminded me that we can probably find a way to roleplay as Dexter Morgan. First Vice City since that show aired 💀 so there will hopefully be plenty of... fishing trips if the game is going to be full of awful people.
I can't remember that character, I played them all in a row though so characters/stories sort of merged.

That sounds like real-life, so I'm not sure how much I'll focus on those parts if at all. I showed Tjuz some guns and cars, but he had none to share back. Actually one of them was a sub-machine gun I'd gotten because it was featured in one of those early screen-shots and naturally I wanted the real thing, with the extended clip too. I don't buy a lot of American firearms, it was the exception because of the game. So of course I showed Tjuz and I could tell rather quickly that he'd never seen real guns before, the cars I can't elaborate on but I do like my guns, a lot. In England you tend to have none so games like this offer that little something, but I don't think the series respects firearms, nor I suppose does it try. That's mainly the big difference I found with the series, I didn't really exercise violence just because I could but it being a sandbox means like you said it offers different things for different people. If knocking stores over is fun then I'll do that, though I'd prefer a bank. I don't remember Five having a dedicated photo-mode unless it was a phone thing, it's something they need to work on. If it's a phone again it will restrict and limit perspective among other elements, but we'll see how it goes.
I'm assuming there's a method on here to spoiler tag pictures? I'm not sure, I'm always aware of spoilers when I do share screenshots/pictures, the same for the rest of us on that thread. Regardless I'm going to be extra careful on here, I've already seen features that I'd prefer to have discovered organically and intuitively on the day/night itself. That's part of gaming for me and since I tend to not play new games I don't see those other threads, so I'll pop out of this thread soon or I'll avoid articles, or both. It's a double-edged sword, on the one hand I'm rarely on the same page as others who do gravitate towards those Triple-A titles (this time I am and that's part of the fun) so when there is feedback it's from people who played said game years or months before I did. Either this thread will be jumping, or like Crimson Desert a select few will be talking about the game while others (I assume) will be playing it. I saw so much negativity on a recent article for the game, so many bitter comments, and put so many people on ignore, so that should help. The spoilers are something I'm going to be very careful to avoid. Once those early reviews do make the rounds there will be a lot of leaked information. The same for music, just look what those earlier leaks/Hacks did, I was almost done with even wanting to play it so I'll be careful between now and release day. I think a lot of people will, I'll probably focus more on the forums than on the news.
There are other games, topics and such to discuss, I like this thread, the hype and the preparation but like I said it's good to discover things on the day too. How about you? I would suppose being locked in someone's basement (you might be) means it's easier to keep that extra distance. And will you be playing at midnight? my other friends won't be playing it, they are PC players and even with PS5s don't seem all that interested, so it will either be discuss the game on here or nowhere. But balanced of course and with many spoiler tags. If it's anything like Crimson Desert I'll walk the land, as long as it has a portable music player and obviously as Lucia, a female protagonist means a lot and it's not really something that's been talked about because gender for people is automatic but Five was something like three middle-aged men and naturally I identified with none of them. The same for every other game I played in the series, they had a whole fashion system and it felt flat, this time I'll have a reason to use it.
You don't need to rush to reply, I'm tired myself. I spent all week at my Expo, it was fun, lots of firearms, tanks, copters, UAVs, soldiers and so on, but it was long days and I feel it caught up on me today. Then there's going back to England for Halloween, I'm trying to decide what game I want to play while we travel, I do want to try The Midnight Walk, but I'll probably end up playing Ballxpit or something.

@Oram77 Good catch, I'm going to add it to collection. There have been some great game ones recently, Mewgenics, The Midnight Walk (still playing and you were right it's brilliant) and now this too. I don't think I have any clear vinyls, the Justice cross blends so perfectly into the rest of the sleeve too. It's a shame they dropped the ball with a game/physical edition. I'd be happy with a map and a tourist guide.

@KnightRider1982 I think that's quite common with collectors items for game
@GirlVersusGame I can honestly see this OST being the best in the series, guess we will find out soon, I bought the code in the box option and huffing on hugh amount of cope that there will be a map inside...
