Topic: Dualsense making weird noises

Just got my ps5. Noticed the controller makes some weird noises.

First, if I hold my ear up to the top of it while it's on I can hear a constant, high pitched whining noise.

Second, I've noticed it makes a weird noise when vibrating sometimes. Like a high buzzing noise. Almost sounds like morse code or something. I have mainly noticed it when shooting in Call of Duty Cold War.

Are both of these things normal? Thanks

This is the high pitched noise I can hear when I put my ear up to the top:

Could somebody just quickly check their controller? Can't find any info on this. Thanks

@iyiyi Mine emits no noises, except when rumbling.

Thanks. If you put your ear up to the top of the controller it doesn't make that faint, high pitched noise in the YouTube video I attached?

These new DualSense controllers are plagued with weak R2 triggers.

Players are returning them in their droves as a spring inside just isn't up to the job.

Sony will replace all faulty controllers (and all controllers are faulty) but, the process takes about four weeks.

Both of mine have had to be replaced already.

The problem would be much more widespread, had people actually been able to actually get their hands on a console.

Just a bit of advice, I've started using a DS4 to play PS4 games via the PS5, due to the fragility of the DualSense and keep it literally for PS5 games only, of which there are few.

I haven't had any trigger issues. Just noise issues (with both the controller and the PS5 making all kinds of buzzing noises)

Have you heard that high pitched noise at all from any of your controllers? You can only hear it when putting your ear up to the top of the controller

Just sent my bundled DualSense off to Sony for repair - broken R2 spring.

No high pitched noise from that or the new one I've had to buy.

Based on some research I guess only some people can heard the frequency, which I didn't realize. The youtube video I posted above was in some other threads I was reading and some people couldn't hear anything when they played it (I hear a high pitched whining noise, the exact same noise coming from my controller)

@iyiyi No high pitched noise from mine, I'm glad to say but, I've hardly used my replacements or played PS5 games since they arrived.

There's already a lot of travel in the R2 triggers on both replacements.

It seems these Dual Sense controllers have not been tested much at all. They're very poor quality.

Yeah, I have the system, the controller, the headset and the charging stand. All are honestly pretty terrible quality. The PS5 has been a real let down all around...I should have waited.

Hi I’m having the same issue with my PS5 controller I’ve never hit it nor banged it off of my hand or the ground and when I put it up to my ear I can hear this loud whirring noise like what a dog can hear like a loud ringing but there’s no issue with the controller otherwise.
Is there an issue with my controller? Have you fixed it or is the same issue recurring?

@Killian After a lot of research, it's normal. Some people can hear the frequency, some can't.

Yeah, mine does emit a high pitched wave when playing PS5 games too. I can't hear it unless I hold it close to my ear though.

@iyiyi oh that’s extremely strange thank you for replying I guess we got powerful hearing

Mine doesn't make any weird noise but that sound in the video is what I hear when I'm not playing games seeing as I suffer from Tinnitus ranging from moderate to severe.

yes some people can hear coil whine from electronics, I do not. I've never heard anything from my controller, probably because I use a headset 90% of the time

The high pitch noise is likely on all of them, but as mentioned not everyone can hear it is all. My girlfriend can’t hear it but I can 🤷‍♂️

There is an app you can download designed to output noises at a user defined frequency to clear water out of your phone speakers. I was playing with it the other day and it was surprising how much higher up the frequency I could still hear versus my girlfriend. Anyway I understand it’s just to do with the Bluetooth transmission.

I can also hear a high pitched electronics type of noise, similar to if you power up an old static TV,. When I hold the control to my ear the sound is coming from the DualSense Speaker. If you power it on while you’re listening you’ll hear it, I have tried 2 separate controls both do the exact same thing, It is very faint, I’ve only just noticed it after 5 weeks of owning the console. I tried adjusting the speaker volume to see if that would help but the noise is still there. If my speaker is on the sound gets drowned out but I don’t seem to be able to turn it off, only down fully. I think it’s the speaker inside emitting the noise because it is always powered up by the battery, is there not a way to deactivate the speaker?
