@colonelkilgore Yep, buttons are pressure sensitive on PS3 which is why I can’t play some of my PS3 games anymore. You’re probably going to need a DualShock 3 if you’re on original hardware!
@nessisonett thought so, just ordered a refurbished Dual Shock 3 from Back Market now… pretty frustrating this but oh well. Cheers for the quick reply.
@colonelkilgore good to hear that you've ordered a DS3! There isn't really anything else I could suggest unfortunately. I didnt delve too much into the additional content of MGS 2 barring some of the Snake Tales missions!
@colonelkilgore Yeah, that's a good shout from Ness up there. I hope the DualShock3 helps, and that you're able to claim your well-earned platinum soon!
As lovely and as versatile as pressure-sensitive buttons can be, I always find them more trouble than they're worth, if I'm honest. As a result, I rarely ever hold up the guards in those older MGS games, because I'd either lower my weapon and get attacked, or just end up shooting them anyway.

@RogerRoger it's crazy mate, I've had no issues throughout as I've always just held up guards with a hand gun. It just so happens the last 10 missions of the VR & Alternate Missions only supply you with an assault rifle (which just starts spraying bullets the moment i 'push square' 😉).
I can't believe I've managed to beat the various parts that are considered notorious plat-blockers... but heard nothing about this issue whatsoever.
@JohnnyShoulder funny enough I just text (rather than tag) a mate of mine, he reckons he got a few ds3's that still work... so good shout... in a way 😁
@colonelkilgore Just be thankful you're not playing MGS2 on PS Vita. It's an admirable port, but it makes some very bizarre control choices, and always feels a little bit awkward as a result.
That's the problem with platinum guides for older games. They were written when DS3s were plentiful!

@Keith_Zissou yeah he has a spare… and I’ve ordered a refurbed one… but having read a bit further into it, it looks like it’ll be ‘temperamental’ even with a dualshock3 (hence the crazy controller-rig thread).
If I’d have known about this going in, I probably wouldn’t have aimed for the plat… but now I’ve put so much time in… and I’m so close (like 30 minutes away if I was on Xbox 360 or PSvita with their different control methods) that I’m gonna plod on.
@Keith_Zissou it would be mate (apart from any for Portable Ops and the Acid games, if there are any). I ain’t counting my chickens though, this whole M4 aim without firing thing just seems incredibly suspect.
I’d kinda thought the plat was mine after completing the MGS1 Snake Variety Missions… I don’t think that anymore that’s for sure 🤯
@nessisonett 👍 in that case @Keith_Zissou yes, if I do somehow manage to navigate the MGS1 Snake HOLD Up missions (about which, I have little to no faith) I would have the full set 🤩
@colonelkilgore In the context of the Metal Gear Solid series, I would've thought the line "Fetch me some wire and a toothpaste cap!" would be from some elaborate interrogation sequence, but no.

@RogerRoger yeah in all honesty I liked Sutherland in V... in fairness it was my first game in the series so I’d never heard Hayter’s Snake at that time. Maybe I’d feel differently now...
