Topic: Beware Disco Elysium data corruption

So I was playing Disco Elysium which has been a fascinating blast and I'm doing a specific task looking for stuff in lorries and decide to save. The second I save the game crashes and when I reboot it the game decides my data is corrupt and deletes ALL of my saved data. 12+ hours of gameplay simply wasted. I've heard there's been quite a few problems with the PS4 version of this game and just figured I'd send out a warning that this happens. Real angry and plan to start over since I am forced to, but dunno when because now I'm afraid the game will decide that all my time is gonna get wasted again

@MortalSora Sorry to hear that. I was lucky enough to get through the game with no problems at all and your issue sounds like one they should have fixed will the numerous patches!

I assume you haven’t got PS+ and cloud backup saves?

@MortalSora gutted for you mate, I know it doesn't help now but I always try to have a couple of manual saves on the go just in case this happens.

Deffo check out what @Thrillho suggested though, there may well be a save in the cloud storage prior to the data corruption.

Well here's the weird thing, as soon as I booted the game back up it automatically deleted ALL my DE save files including the ones on the cloud storage!

So yeah, wasn't sure if this was a common problem or not but if it was just a fluke I may restart it again but I can't help but feel paranoid. Game's very lucky it's so compelling

@MortalSora I don’t know why it’s done that. Games typically don’t have access to the cloud storage unless you manually overwrite or a specific amount of time has passed.

I've just settled in to continue my game (first playthrough, was on day 5) and all of my saves have gone, only having the option to start a new game. WTF?!

@MatthewJP Try restoring your file from cloud storage.

@MatthewJP I’ve had quite a few issues with saves going missing across the PS5 and having to restore from the cloud. It seems to be a system issue rather than just Disco Elysium. Perhaps it’s their way of selling PS+.

@nessisonett coincidence or not my dual sense was completely discharged this evening and wouldn't even start the console (was full last night and I don't leave in rest mode). This is the 2nd time this week its happened - never happened previously and had it since launch. Definitely something quirky going on

@MatthewJP It’s a bit odd. Rubbish you’ve lost your save though just because you don’t sub to PS+, can’t believe they charge for cloud saves in this day and age.

@MatthewJP for future reference, even though you can't save to the cloud as you ain't subscribed to PS+, you can still save to a USB.

@colonelkilgore Only on PS4. I don’t know if OP is on PS4 or PS5 but there’s no USB option on PS5.

@nessisonett fair, I actually haven't tried it on the 5 yet, I'm surprised the option isn't available (Jim Ryan out 🤣)

@colonelkilgore thanks and I'm on ps5. I did actually use the USB to transfer some ps4 saves over when i bought the 5. Never considered making a habit of saving to USB, but guess that's not yet an option. Frustrating what's happened.

@MatthewJP yeah I’d be gutted not gonna lie. This is one of the reasons I like to play through my backlog rather than play games new though, by the time I get to games most if not all little problems have been resolved. I’ll probably get to Disco Elysium around 2025/2026 😉

@MatthewJP It’s mad that it’s even a thing but with the save corruption seen in Returnal, Disco Elysium and Tony Hawk’s PS5 versions, you might want to subscribe to PS+ just for that security with your saves.

I don't play online at all so never considered it a good investment, although the games made available lately are making me consider it...

BTW I was really struggling to open the ice cream freezer (had the upgraded prybar). Does it eventually thaw?

@MatthewJP The freezer does thaw if you unplug it and leave it for a day. It’s one of those checks that took me ages because I kept failing it at 80% 😂
