Topic: Are you getting a PS4 at launch?

I'd be curious to know everyone's thoughts on this. As of this point I am pretty much sold on the PS4, but there are other factors that may (read as: definitely will) influence when I purchase. Firstly, I just got a brand new PC, and I am loving playing games on that. Not to mention the price savings of most PC games.

And then there's my backlog. There was recently a story on PushSquare by Sammy Barker that hit on some really good points of the backlog. Even if you have one console, you probably have a backlog. And if you have multiple consoles? And a PC? Pfft.

Me? I've got PS+, and I'm guessing you might as well. Do you know how many free PS+ games I have on backlog? I don't. (Seriously. I've lost count.) But it's easily more than 6 or 7. I even have games I've purchases physical copies of that I haven't played yet!

So why would I shell out a few hundred dollars to buy a PS4 when I still have a bunch of great games to play on PS3? Don't get me wrong, I want a PS4. But I have enough content to be entertained for quite some time after Sony's new console comes to market. I think I'll be holding off for at least a year.
And then, as a result, my backlog will continue to grow. It's a never-ending cycle I fear.

What are your thoughts?

In your case, it's definitely worth waiting. By the time you've finished your backlog, and any other PS3 games you get between now and then, PS4 will have more games, probably have been patched a few times, and possibly have dropped in price.
I'm in a situation now where I have a Wii U and an Xbox 360. I've always owned an Xbox and a Nintendo console but Xbox are pissing me off emailing me about paying for Xbox Live and I've decided to switch to Sony. I have a similar dilemma to you in that I could get a PS3 now for really cheap and have a whole bunch of great games to play, but I'm wondering whether to do that or just wait for a PS4. I've come to the decision I'm gonna get a PS3 after a few weeks of thinking about it. PS3 has a lot of life in it yet and will be going strong for a decent while into the PS4's life span. Wait, and make the most of your PS3 before it goes into the wardrobe for retirement lol. You could even wait for PS4's price to drop, ready to swoop in and trade in your PS3 for a really good deal.

I plan on waiting. I just picked up the white 500 GB PS3 to replace my 160 GB model. There are way to many PS3 games I have yet to play and I'm not even thinking about PS4. That said when I do get my next system it will be a PS4.

I might skip the PS4 entirely, but so far I'd grab that Killzone game if I was getting it at launch. Maybe Daisuke's new game if they can get it over here by Launch.

Meh, I have more than enough games to play as it is. With a 3DS, PS3, and Wii U I don't even have enough time to play every game I want to as it is.

I'm planning on getting one at launch. Still going to give MS the benefit of the doubt that it could surprise me, but right now PS4 is the first next-gen console I'm planning to get.

While I can't say for sure yet since we don't know what Microsoft will come up with, I'm fairly sure I'll get a PS4 at launch. My ps3 backlog is slowly dwindling away and I don't see many games this year REALLY taking up a lot of my time (except for a few Vita games). I believe the only games on PS3 this year I am super excited about are Beyond, Lost Planet 3, and Final Fantasy 13 Lightning Returns. Honestly, I'd have no problems waiting for LP3 and FF if they were also announced for PS4 (Beyond cannot be passed up).

I love playing around with new tech and I really enjoy very pretty games. I'm hoping one of the aspects the PS4 will improve upon is full 1080p 3D in more games. We already know the graphics will be amazing, but I love a good 3D game I also expect some awesome Vita uses with PS4. I have a fairly beastly gaming desktop I built, but in general, I don't care for PC gaming as it's not consistent enough for my taste and overall, gaming on a pc feels like a waste of resources. It bugs me that my pc has far greater processing power, memory, graphical processing power, and a far better SSD controller, but games look only slightly better. (not to mention the huge power consumption of an i7 and gtx690..)

As for my recommendations, for most people, I'd still recommend a PS3 for the time being. Unless you're all about cutting edge tech, very passionate about video games, and consider graphics very important, the PS3 will easily provide you with the "best" gaming platform and "best" library of absolutely amazing games and a much lower price.

I'll be getting one at launch. I've already gotten rid of my PS3 and the associated backlog of games, I'm hoping to adopt a cleaner approach to PS4 and stick with games I have a little more and try to play everything worth playing.
I've no plans for a second console like a WiiU or neXtbox either.
MS will have a massive launch I'm sure. Most of my friends aren't early console adopters though, and mostly had 360s when I bought my launch PS3. I've spoken with a couple already who are interested in both PS4 and the neXtbox but aren't committing to either at launch in case of hardware problems. Several of them went through several 360s in the early days, so they all want to avoid that.
My launch PS3 lasted the better part of 5 years, so I'm not worried about Sony build quality so much.

Fully expect to buy a PS4 (can't imagine MS winning me over at this stage but you never know).

The question is not really if but when. For me to get it at launch it would have to be out by Christmas (which in AU I severely doubt) and be at an affordable price point. PS3 was $1000 at launch in AU! True, the AU dollar was lower then, but even when the Vita was released (and the AUD was higher than the USD) they still managed to charge us 50% more. So, I am not putting anything beyond Sony's pricing policy.

If the price is too high, or they miss the Christmas window I may wait a while. Still waiting for the Vita's price to drop before taking the plunge.

Unless Sony screw up spectacularly with incoming announcements, then yes definitely.

Whenever the EU launch ends up being, anyway... please don't say spring 2014.

Epic

There are only 2 games announced im interested Knack and Infamous,
I will never buy a console unless I have at least 10 games that I really want from that console and I'm kinda out of money for now.
Another thing is that isn't backward compatibles so all the PS+ games and few more games are worthless if I someday get a PS4 and I was planning to trade my PS3 but this is kinda a let down.

I don't know how much it will cost.
I don't know what exact games will be at launch.
I don't know what online services will be like at launch (although I can make some assumptions that it will be an improvement over PS3 and much like Vita)
I don't know what it looks like.
I don't know if the system might have some serious problems at launch. I'd rather not get one until others have tinkered around with it enough.

Until these things are addressed, I honestly can't answer the question.

no i'm not but then again i never get a console at launch, i always wait for about a year because it will have a larger library of games and most of the proplems should have been fixed

Not at launch, but I may get one sometime.

Depends on the price and the available games, hence, if there's enough there to tempt me. Don't know if I will be able to safe up enough money till launch, but asuming that I manage to do that, I might get one at launch or shortly after.

Even after the Xbox RRoD debacle, I often crave to early adopt when it comes to consoles. Since current gen graphics are getting a little...old, I can't wait for the proper tech-update the PS4 promises. So: yeah, if I can get the money, I'm most probably in.
