Topic: Essential PS3 Games for a Newbie?

@Fizza Yeah, as I recall we've had similar issues in the past but honestly I would recommend trying it again, maybe you'll have more luck.
Maybe try the Devil May Cry series and Resident Evil.
If you like fighting games you could give Blazblue a shot and possibly Marvel Vs Capcom, for no other reason but the fact Phoenix Wright can fight Deadpool. (I'm weird, I know.)

I've wanted to play Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 for so....SO long. I always just assumed it was PS4/Vita exclusive since I had never seen a PS3 version but lo and behold....HERE IT IS.

You mean to tell me I can finally play the fighting game character I've adored since the moment I first saw him, and whose series I've absolutely fallen in love with ever since?

@Fizza Funny, 'cause I had I had it the other way around, it's probably going to be my next PS3 purchase.
Off topic: I really hope if the rumours about a Direct next week are true, I really want to see AJ, DD and SoJ combined into a trilogy and ported to current gen consoles (but mostly the Switch.)

@Fizza Sorry for being a little late to the party, and I know you didn't specifically ask about racing games, but beyond what everybody else has already mentioned, I'd add Split/Second to your CEX shopping list. It's a game that's trapped on PS360-gen hardware, that's unlikely to get a remaster or remake, and that's such a unique and memorable experience. Worth grabbing if you see it going cheap!

Otherwise yeah, it's all the usual suspects. Batman: Arkham Origins, Jak & Daxter HD Trilogy, the Killzone games, LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, the Metal Gear Solid saga (including Rising: Revengeance), Mirror's Edge, Sonic Unleashed, Splinter Cell HD Trilogy, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, and Tomb Raider Underworld (or the Tomb Raider HD Trilogy if you can find it) are the titles that leap out from my shelf. There are dozens of others, but many of the greatest have re-appeared on current consoles (like the Batman: Arkham games; only Origins is trapped on PS3, whereas I'd recommend playing the Asylum and City remasters on PS4 if possible).
