Hey all, I have a data dvd full of mp3's that my old ps3 read and played the mp3s
but I have a different ps3 now and it will not read the dvd
Is there anything I can do to get it to work?

@rayman1 it's a bit weird if they removed that functionality from a later model. The PS3 is the only thing I own that will play a CD audiobook (MP3 data discs). I used it a year or two ago and it worked fine. I can't find anything online about that functionality being removed or anything.

Maybe just check you are accessing it in the same way. I think it's under the music tab and then Disc. I am not sure but I think you might need to press a button to get the files to show, either Triangle or Start, maybe Square or Select. Just try all the buttons lol. I am not sure if it shows them automatically or if it opens a menu that gives you the option to show the tracks. I remember there being something weird like that when I listened to the audiobook.

Other than that, I can't really advise much, perhaps the PS3 is faulty in some way. I guess the only way to test is to see if it plays other CDs, either normal music CDs or PS1 discs. I think all PS3s can play PS1 discs but the later models read the data on the disc and run it through a software emulator but the original model ran it through the hardware emulator that was included in the PS2 gubbins that it had built in. Could be wrong though

Edit: just had a look online and it says press Triangle and press Display All

It won't even recognize there is a disc inserted/nothing to display all

I guess there is no way to know if this is an earlier or later model than my other one
plays ps1 discs fine

@rayman1 sorry I can't help more with it. Could have a look to see if the disc is visible under any of the other tabs like Video or Games and do the same Press Triangle and Display all process there.

Perhaps try cleaning the disc, old DVDs are starting to "rot" now but you can save them for a bit longer by cleaning off the outermost layer of tacky substance on the underside of the disc.

If still no luck, I can only suggest trying to burn another MP3 disc and trying that on there to see if you have any joy. Could maybe even copy the data from the old disc if it's readable in a computer.

See ya!
