I just wanted to know, how well does the game run/play on the PS3? I've heard several times in the past that the PS3 version in particular has some serious frame rate issues and bugs and things of that sort, but I'm also aware that the devs have released patches. So is the game fixed up now? Or did the patches not fix the issues?

This biggest problem I had was with the game freezing. It never happened in game but would lockup on loading screens from time to time. It wasn't game breaking I still put in well over 100 hours in to the game and loved every second of it. I also had minor lag, frame rate issues but no more than some other games I have played it didn't really effect me.

That said I got it WAY after it came out and got all the patches before playing.

All the serious issues with the PS3 version were fixed long ago. I put in around 200 hours into the game and it was fine. Not saying there are no bugs left, but all the game breaking things were solved.  But you definitely need all the patches.

Like @Ginkgo said, you definitely need to have the patches.

You'll have far less trouble if you're starting a new game with every patch installed. By doing so, you shouldn't have many problems - just the odd glitch here and there.

That said, Skyrim always deteriorates the more you play due to how it saves your progress. In time, your load screens will begin to last longer and frame drops will become more common - but there's nothing you can really do about it.

Personally, I got the game about a month after launch, and I didn't get my first crash until 90 hours in. After that happened, it was all down hill for about 200 more hours - by which point I couldn't play for more than 20 minutes without my PS3 locking up. But obviously, I didn't have all of the patches.

Even with the patches , this game is a mess on ps3. I still love it though. I need to finish the DLC, just got tired of the glitches and yes freezing up. The game still freezes after all the patches, atleast my copy does.I got so fed up i put it down for a while.

This isnt oblivion thats for sure.I wish Fallout would hurry.

I've played nearly 100 hours of Skyrim on PS3 and it has only frozen once. I never noticed any real lag, none that affected the gameplay, at least. I've played barely 25 hours of The Last of Us, and on my Survivor fie alone, the game has frozen on me twice, requiring me to completely reset my PS3. I was pretty pissed.

So as you can see from this thread alone, Skyrim on PS3 is different things for different people, so your experiences will be slightly different. I'd definitely recommend you giving it a shot, if that's why you were asking about it.

Yeah my friend offered to sell it to me for twenty bucks, and I've been wanting to play for a really long time, so I said I would consider it. I was weary because of the things I've heard about the PS3 version, but I think I'll give it a shot.

While there were many issues at launch, most of them have been resolved by the subsequent patches. I believe many of the issues different players are seeing probably have more to do with the respective health of their machines than anything else. I will say that I bought the game at launch in November 2011, and encountered many of the initial bugs and glitches. However, later that holiday, I upgraded the stock hard drive in my PS3 slim with a slightly larger and faster drive (750GB/7200rpm), and I did notice marked improvement in performance, particular with regards to loading times.
