Topic: Ghost of Tsushima : DC - PS5 disc or PS5 upgrade?

Hi guys,

I just recently purchased a PS5 (finally yay!) and this just bothers me. I'm planning to buy Ghost of Tsushima Director's cut but the price for PS4 disc is $49 (on sale) and the PS5 version is $109. Knowing I can get a free upgrade from PS4 I'm just thinking why should I get the PS5 disc then apart from that I will own a disc instead of digital version.

I've been doing some research on this. Some people say the upgrade is enough I don't need to buy the PS5 version, while some people states the upgrade just merely increases the resolution & frame rate but you'll miss extra features such as Ray Tracing & dual sense features.

Is this true? I would like to hear some comments from you guys.

Thanks in advance!

If you've just purchased a PS5, then surely you want to see a game like Ghost at its very best? Otherwise, you may as well just played it on a PS4 Pro.

Pay the extra, enjoy the machine.

If you pay for the Director's Cut upgrade, you do get Ray Tracing and Duel Sense features, don't you? You'll need to pay for this as it gives you access to the new island.

Are people not talking about the free upgrade when the PS5 first came out?

@Raidenpo_88 To make things clear:
Ghost of Tsushima PS4 version was updated to run at a higher frame rate on PS5 - this is indeed free and some consider it good enough.
The upgrade to the native PS5 version isn't actually free, I believe it's $10 - there is no ray tracing in GoT but you do get the DualSense features (which are awesome), tempest 3D audio (which is awesome) and even faster loading (which is kinda crazy considering there's barely any loading anyway).

If the price difference is that big, I'd probably get the PS4 version and pay for the upgrade. The total will still be much lower than the PS5 version at that price.
There are some downsides to this route but I don't think they're big enough to justify paying extra $50.

For me I'd grab the PS4 version and pay for the upgrade, which I thought was worth the extra money for the controller features, 3D audio and faster loading. I know others felt the opposite though and were happy enough with the PS4 version, which is damn good without any of those things and still loads pretty fast even if you just run it on a PS4.

@Raidenpo_88 To add my two cents, I played the base game on PS5 and thought it was great; it ran smoothly, looked beautiful, had great audio, and loading times were minimal.

I upgraded for the Iki Island DLC and the resistive triggers are nice but not essential. Lip sync for Japanese dialogue was better too but not a game changer really. But overall it wasn’t a huge change so it all depends on whether you think it justifies the cost.
