It's that time of year again folks. We would love to ask you some questions and would greatly appreciate it if you could take the time to respond to our anonymous survey.
Why is this important to us? Our websites survive mainly due to those who choose to advertise their games on our websites. Advertisers typically (and understandably) want to know who they are advertising to, therefore, our survey gives us a snapshot view of our audience in 2025.
This year we're trying to keep things quite focused and have boiled everything down to 20 simple questions. Some of them are about you, some of them about which platforms you own and the games you buy and finally where you typically get your gaming news. All questions are optional, but any personal questions will contain a 'Prefer not to say' option.
We are running the same survey across all Hookshot websites; that is Nintendo Life, Push Square, Pure Xbox and Time Extension. You only need to answer it once, and it doesn't matter which site you do it on.
We will run more site-specific surveys in due course.
Sorry, this survey is now closed
Phew, you did it! Thank you so much for sharing your responses with us.
Your personal responses will be kept private in line with our privacy policy and will only be used to share anonymised and aggregated responses to our questions.
What was your favourite question this year? Are you disappointed we didn't ask about your dog's favourite game? Let us know in the comments below.

Why is not buying any new hardware not an option?
You should also have a survey asking us what we think of PS as a whole. Ask us where we think you can improve and how you can improve.
@TheFakulty we've added a 'None' option now, thanks!
@Northern_munkey yeah, we'll do a more site focused survey in due course, this is more general across all our sites.
Just had please wait after submitting all answers… then when I refreshed they’re all unanswered. I ain’t doing it again
@graymamba same here..it just hung for 10 mins or so then just said submit again lol..
@Northern_munkey @graymamba should be fixed now, my bad!
@antdickens yes I had same but now fixed and submitted.
My answers about buying games really hit home on how little I buy games now. This not because I dont like any of the games, i always love reading up on new releases and putting them on my wishlist. However, 1 and haf year's ago I made the decision not to buy any more games, because of my humongous back catalogue of purchased and ps plus games across 3 generations. I was finding I was buying games but not getting round to playing them until they end up being on ps plus or being a few years old and then ridiculously low sale prices. It was just wasting money. The only purchases I have made in recent years was Astrobot for my daughter and helldivers 2 (for hype and didn't like it) and the rest have been ps3 games, and then only dlc, a couple of vr games and then ps5 £10 upgrades.
"How often do you visit Pure Xbox?"
I've never been so insulted in all my life.
Some trophy hunter/achievement hunter poll questions would be appreciated.
Current state of trophies/achievements on console, whether or not we base purchases off trophy lists, what constitutes an exceptional/exceptionally poor trophy-achievement list, what features we’d like to see added to the system backend (ability to delete games with incomplete trophy lists and not merely games at exactly 0% trophy completion, ability to alphabetize our lists on console, separate sku’s for single player/multiplayer trophies within a given game, etc)
Removed - inappropriate language
Why isn't there a 'none' option for Q.12? I don't buy games digitally period, so I didn't answer it. At least I didn't get a message to falsely answer Q.12
Next time can you not lump everybody 45+ into a single 'this is the last phase of your gaming life, old timers' category please? Asking for a friend.
Glad this is working now... tried twice yesterday before repporting the issue.
For sites for game news, im suprised Skillups new website twiv was not a specific answer, though of course you can add under 'other'.
I look foward to seeing the data once collected, should be interesting!
I never buy full-priced games, but I have no such option. That's a bummer.
Thanks for participating everyone!
It's really helpful! And as @antdickens mentioned, we'll definitely be doing a site-specific survey in the future to try to understand your wants/needs better!
@TheFakulty It is. Select "None"
@TheFakulty I can empathise... I have around 30 unplayed games now on my PS5 (and 1 or 2 on the Switch), and just adding to a growing Wishlist now, but not buying anything til I play what I own! So tempting buying games that look great, but I won't play them for a couple of years, by which time they are patched, fully working and often heavily discounted
@THGhost it wasn't originally and it has since been added in as per the other person's post
Weird how you only show US dollar or GBP in the survey and not Euro at least. Not everyone is from the US or UK.
When am I getting paid for all my personal data
Those last two questions about where do you get gaming news apart from this site really opened my eyes. Just realised that I now only use YouTube for gaming news rather than any mainstream media. I imagine a lot of people are the same. Some of the sites listed are dreadful for gaming content and news. Pages of ads and articles written by people who clearly don’t really play the games they are reviewing apart from an hour or two.
I have ordered a golden Commodore 64, and will probably get the Atari handheld. I quite like being able to get all the arcade games from my youth in convenient devices....I continue to search for one that has a decent version of Time Pilot. An if someone wanted to market an affordable pinball machine to me, with Attack from Mars on it, I'd be all over it.
Ah a data gauging survey. Sure I'll bite even the questions are very hmm of fair to rather invasive. While I don't need to mention them I will. Forget anonymous here (I do use a username still after all). That and so I can remember what i answered as can't edit.
Gender sure, age demo sure, income hmm, family members sure, personal but sure, game recommendations sure, hardware own most (though while family have PS5 Standard/Slim and Xbox Series X I refuse to use them personally, nothing on them I want & played PS5 Standard for Ratchet Rift Apart to Blizar so barely, beat Space Marine 2 & that's it, not interested in the console, it's peripherals yet own them & game line up sucks).
VR got PSVR1, PSVR2 and HTC Vive Cosmo, so to me because I hate PS5, Xbox Series and Switch 2 even then looking at a new standard PC, not a gaming, so unless it's retro, modern era hardware is boring.
Full price games, uh not really, 2025 none, family have, I haven't once this year, 2024 sure the niche Switch 1st party games but 2025 none, only retro. 2026 Rhythm Heaven Groove sure, otherwise nah. 1st/3rd parties have been terrible this gen. But I've been collecting/ignoring modern gaming more since 2017 or even a bit earlier, but 2017+ I committed to retro more & it's been great as things were changing so I started at the right time things were going downhill.
Even for birthday getting earphones (hate Bluetooth audio but have to live with terrible modern devices/keep my old ones).
Physical/digital, it varies. Prefer physical but 'have to' some digital. For 9th gen/10th gen I"m not doing digital at all. Retro physical or 8th gen physical/digital sure.
Switch/PS4/Vita (not PS3 yet) digital, not Xbox only physical on Xbox, or EB Games (not JB Hifi anymore as slim PS4 game options as they go to more modern, like any Big W/other department stores despite being an electronics/entertainment store).
Genres well not RPGs and open worlds I am too picky as most are bland. Tactics RPGs (W/JRPGs) sure, Action adventure in them modern era is ruined so nope, retro yes. Racing games suck in the modern era, anti grav are fine, kart racers fine, but arcade/sims have been garbage all of 8/9th gen. I see some but 99% of them revival, continued or new IPs suck. Racing genre embarrasses itself.
FPS/TPS yeah older modern formula/rail shooters. PS2/3 era ones prefer. PS4 ones are passable (besides select few greats) but not as good. PS5 era any I thought were cool flopped/were good, or bad. So I blame audiences/devs on those for lack of them.
Party. Rarely & retro too, not into them.
Platformers like racing or FPS are just bad these days. Retro ones are better, modern AAA eh, Indie even more bland or hit and miss. Odd good ones, 99% of them suck.
Strategy/city builders vary for me. Visual Novels I've gotten back into again. Arcade sports vary, so like party rarely.
Indie games annually, eh. It varies. A lot recently, but otherwise it varies.
I visit NL/PS/PX often, TE on occasion due to remembering the URL/not as much retro stuff I look at that way more YT.
Gaming news varies of here,, YT, Reddit, retro spaces.
Fair questions but 'how much some one makes' is a very 'particular' question to ask. I get gauging audience and things but I don't think how much they make/what class they fit is appropriate even if I get why it would be asked.
Or how many children unless they are open to saying so.
