Platinum Trophy #34: Sound Shapes
Date Earned: 31st October 2021
Dopamine Index:
Hello! Been a minute since the last one of these, hasn't it? Sorry about that. I will be better, just as Kratos tells us.
Funnily enough, after the last Going Platinum, which was quite a personal and meaningful one for me, this edition is sort of the opposite.
I played Sound Shapes on PS Vita, and the primary motivation was, I'm afraid, Trophies. I simply wanted a PS Vita platinum, and this neat little game was what I chose.

I think this might be the most "Trophy hunter" I've ever been, just looking for another easy platinum to add to my collection.
That's not to say I didn't connect with the game, or enjoy it on its own merits; I definitely did. It's well worth playing if you haven't already.
Sound Shapes is a very simple game and very well-suited to the Vita, I think. It's essentially a 2D platformer set to music.
You control a little ball that can stick to objects in the environment, and you just hop over obstacles and hazards and soak in the music, and that's pretty much it.
Trophies are similarly straightforward; all you need to do to net the platinum is beat every level in the base game's campaign. Easy peasy, and it doesn't take long.
Through various DLC packs, there are a lot of other Trophies up for grabs, but they're not required for the top trinket.
I wish I had a bit more to say about the game itself, but to be honest I think I platinumed Sound Shapes in one or two sittings and moved on from it very quickly.
It deserves a bit more love than that. I really like the block colour visuals and simple geometry, and obviously the soundtrack is nice too, with numerous artists I recognise but frankly couldn't hum a single one of their songs.
It's good! And you should play it for more than the Trophies. Don't be like me.
Cheers, Sound Shapes.

These thumbnails are always brilliant, Stephen.
I really enjoyed Sound Shapes but the Platinum was too difficult for me. I got close but I gave up.
And you chose one of the hardest ones?
The game is superb. I still play it from time to time when I'm in bed. But those time challenges? Man, even the developers literally warn you against playing them.

Huh?
Ha sound shapesโฆ guiltyโฆ ๐ ๐. I enjoyed it tbh.
Dang Bro. There are FAR better games on PS Vita with easier and more enjoyable platinums than Sound Shapes. Take a look at my profile on any trophy site if you want some suggestions as I platinum pretty much everything I play. ๐

Still good job getting it done and congrats!

I think the best part about Sound Shapes on Vita is the amazing visuals on the OLED screen. I boot it up once in a while just to look at it haha
@naruball @get2sammyb
Glad you two thought so ... I thought I must be thinking of the wrong game. Think I did get the plat but remember some of the levels making me want to put the controller through a wall.
Reading this article was thinking maybe it's just me!
Sound Shapes is a fun platinum. And a good game. I think. I don't really remember it but I'm pretty sure I got the platinum and I'm pretty sure I liked it.
Good job I'm not writing this article.
@johncalmc yes another good one is severed. Uses all the Vitas functions too
@DETfaninATL sure is some good games on it. I recently platted Ridge Racer
I can't wait to see the Dopamine Index for Vampyre Survivors.
@johncalmc I mean I donโt think I got much further than you did
I question the point of writing about getting a platinum long enough after the fact that one doesn't remember what's required for it. Anyway, as others have mentioned, there are challenges where you have to collect a bunch of things within a time limit. For some reason, the spawns are completely randomised, so one run will be impossible while the next is incredibly easy.
I only played it on PS4 (and autopopped the PS3 list when the server stopped tsundereing out in its final moments) but it was a decently fun game. I have to go back and play the DLC.
I loved this game back when it launched! Shame there was never a sequel.
