It's been a long time coming, but our official Game of the Month series is back!
As the name suggests, these articles allow us to peer into the past, celebrating the month that was by recalling its best PS5 games. But of course, we need your help to determine our Game of the Month winner.
January 2025 wasn't a particularly busy period for new releases (all of the heaviest hitters are lined up for February and March), but the first month of the year was still sprinkled with quality.
Dynasty Warriors made a rather triumphant comeback with Dynasty Warriors: Origins, which was met with really positive reviews and praise from many existing fans.
Meanwhile, Wuthering Waves released as a genuine competitor to the likes of Genshin Impact — a free-to-play action RPG backed by a crazy budget.
But let's not overlook games like Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector and Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter — indie sequels that improve on their already well-received predecessors.
And speaking of sequels, the new Sniper Elite, Sniper Elite: Resistance, hit just last week, but it's already making waves as yet another rock solid entry in the historical shooter series.
So, what was your Game of the Month for January 2025? Cast your vote in our poll, and then argue your case in the comments section below.
Voting closes on Friday the 7th February 2025, at 00:00 GMT.

Just so everyone's aware, the staff don't have anything to do with the results for this new Game of the Month system — it's purely user-voted, like our 'Best Games' lists.
So choose wisely!
Easy choice. DW Origins is a good game. A great new direction for the series, with a decent story interwoven into much more robust gameplay mechanics, in a technically competent game.
Where’s the option for ‘nothing came out in January worth buying’ ??
I have only played two of those games and so I'm voting for Wuthering Waves. Much better that Genshin in my opinion, better characters and world to explore and the combat feels better as well. The other game I've played is SynDuality, was looking forward to it a lot but it's just too grindy and gets tedious after doing the same areas over and over.
I am looking forward to Tales of Graces F though which I have coming tomorrow. I'm sure I would have voted for that if I got round to playing it sooner.
Sniper Elite - anyone disagreeing gets an xray shot to the,...............
Ninja Gaiden was brilliant before, it is still now. Though I played it on PC.
Ngl I didn’t play any new releases this month. All I played was Apollo Justice, Stanley Parable, replay of Tales of Arise (still working through) and some random NCAA Football dynasty games
Only played two titles from that list, but I voted Citizen Sleeper 2 over Wuthering Waves as I could not stand Wuthering Waves and it's utterly incipid writting. Citizen Sleeper 2 has a cluncky interface on console ( much better on PC), but it is an example of good writing not aimed at pre teens... 😄
Ys Memoire for me
Love that you guys are doing this now. Didn’t play anything new in January that stuck with me, so I won’t be voting this month, but looking forward to the results.
Freedom wars for me. It’s so good still have my Vita copy on the shelf 👊
Definitely Dynasty Warriors: Origins. A great addition to the franchise.
Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. Pretty easy pick for me. This month is going to be more difficult to decide between Monster Hunter Wilds and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. I expect both to be awesome.
I had to go with Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, only because I haven’t started Sniper Elite Resistance yet. I’ll be booting that up late tonight or tomorrow, however, so my opinion could change. I also have Tails of Iron 2 downloaded, so I need to get around to that as well.
Wuthering Waves for me. Amazingly fun game with some great art.
Most voted Ninja Gaiden 2 Black has only a 6 on a minireview.
Tails of Iron 2 is not a bad option while we wait for the new Hollow Knight but Ender Magnolia is better and doesn't appear in that list, it has a 8 in your review, it's a huge mistake not to add it to the list.
@Fritz167 >Most voted Ninja Gaiden 2 Black has only a 6 on a minireview.
That's because the reviewer is ignorant and played on the easy difficulties lol
Definitely Tales of Graces f Remastered, Dynasty Warriors: Origins and Freedom Wars Remastered.
I will always hate Sniper Elite for its bad taste, celebrating the destruction of the enemy’s body parts. A real soldier just wants to efficiently neutralise the enemy, without creating too much pain, because they could be the next victim of that war and want to be treated the same way.
Reminds me of brutal Wagner mercenaries with sledgehammers.
Its not on the list but Arken Age earned the top game of the month for me.
Ender Magnolia for me!
Beautiful and accessible Metroidvania.
@Pondo320 Me too. Does anyone at PushSquare play PSVR2?
I had to pick other/none. I started Stellar blade in JAN. Not only that, but I'm also playing some of No man's Sky Worlds 2 update.
@DETfaninATL THIS!
My favorite PS5 game that launched in January: Spider-Man 2.
On PC.
🙃
Actually didn't play anything new this month. December is usually my backlog time, and it's carried over to January which is not a bad thing.
I've knocked out:
The Thaumaturge (my favorite game of the last year)
Thirsty Suitors
Right & Down
Lake
and am working on:
Unicorn Overlord
Roots of Pacha
Weird West
